What state you are in makes a big difference too.

For example, in South Carolina sales tax for all vehicles is capped at $300 which is generally collected up front, and there are no usage fees for leases in SC. Whether you buy or lease, you have to pay annual property taxes on the vehicle, but you can lower the pain of that by transfer plates from an existing vehicle that the taxes have already been paid on.

hahaha. The MSRP used in yesterdays figures was $35,810. Im not sure why this new deal is $450 more. I am not sure what that would be. But yes, I knew it was not a base 2-door in my discussion.

$36,260 is exactly a loaded 2DR w/ destination included = $35,490 + $770 = $36,260. Now if I could talk out the door for $499, I'd do it! :w00t:

i think the $469 was for the base model, now the $499 or whatever is the loaded?

Also, nobody does a 3 year loan, so that exercise was silly.

I did with my GTI. Then again, I put a ton of money down too.

The average depreciable life of a car is 10 years. On a $35k Golf R that would represent an average of $3,500 per year in depreciation. An unrealized cost of $292/mo...

Still reading the thread so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already, but depreciation isn't linear, and the car is still worth more than $0 after 10 years. For most cars the yearly depreciation is far less after a year or two, so buying a used R might still be more worthwhile than leasing.

EDIT: looks like it was mentioned already.

I think what is shitty is paying $4,500+ in interest (5% for 60 months) and $2,000+ in taxes (6%) on something that is guaranteed to lose value...

$36,260 + 6% sales tax = $38,414
$38,414 - $1,999 down = $36,415
$36,415 financed at 5% for 60 months = $687.20/mo
$687.20 x 60 = $41,231.76
$41,231.70 - $36,260 = $4,991
$4,991 + $1,999 = $6,990.70 paid MORE than the car actually costs...

hahaha

Leasing certainly works for a lot of people and this lease is not a bad deal.

I do encourage anyone considering this deal to negotiate. DO NOT pay 100% MSRP for the car. You should have no problem getting them in the $450-$470/mo range INCLUDING tax...

I had no idea there is only a $1,500 spread between the base and loaded.

Dynaudio® premium sound system
Power tilt/sliding sunroof
RNS 315 touchscreen navigation system
Keyless entry with push button start

Not true.

The $469/mo had an MSRP of $35,810. This is the number we had been arguing on the whole discussion.
The $499/mo has an MSRP of $36,260.

I actually don't know what the $450 difference is...

I honestly think they changed it because they couldn't do it. The offer said it was good till March 3 but ended Feb 29???

I would still only do it for $470/mo or so, out the door. If not, walk away.

And what is still awesomer about this deal is that they have the residual (lease buy-out) at $20,293... After 3 years on a Golf R with 36,000 miles...hahaha

It is going to be worth $25k-$28k if it holds its value like MKV R's are.

Lease this shit and then finance it at the end of the lease for 3 years and then sell it somewhere along the way. DO IT.

Once again you're illustrating how incompetent you are at math.

You clearly need to amortize the interest expense. Not just add it every year based on the same loan balance. You owe 38k in year one and in year 5 you owe 1k

Loan Summary
$687.18
Monthly Principal & Interest
$41,230.63
Total of 60 Payments
$4,816.63
Total Interest Paid
That's at 5% which frankly is retarded.

VW is currently running specials at 0.9% for the GTI/GOLF

Your local CU is running at 2.5-2.99%

If you can get 0.9%

Loan Summary
$620.90
Monthly Principal & Interest
$37,254.13
Total of 60 Payments
$839.13
Total Interest Paid
Feb, 2017
Pay-off Date

At 2.9%
Loan Summary
$652.71
Monthly Principal & Interest
$39,162.77
Total of 60 Payments
$2,747.77
Total Interest Paid
Feb, 2017
Pay-off Date

Clearly one needs to do MATH in order to figure out which scenario works out best, I still don't get what point you're trying to make?!

In my (and others) defense, this topic is on a Golf R lease. It is a financial discussion.

fair enough. i was just poking the bear(s) a bit.

continue on.

1500 is good deal for the "upgrade". i would have paid that for the premium stereo alone. too bad it would have forced me into a sunroof and keyless (no thanks)

I used an amortization calculator. I didn't just manually add 5% interest every year...hahaha.

I plugged the numbers into a financial calculator I use in my office at my job where I am a chartered financial analyst (CFA)...

Amount Financed - $36,415 ($36,260 + 6% sales tax - $1,999 down payment)
Term - 5 years
Interest Rate - 5%

ENTER

What it spits out is;
$687.20 payments
$41,231.76 in total payments
$4,816.76 in interest

If you have a problem with this, call Thompson Reuters, they created the software...:D
