Wow been a while since this has been updated, sorry for missing all these replies!
Im literally drooling right now. Fantastic job.
Thanks!
Congrats. I bet she runs awesome.
What about hp? You have some numbers?
Teff
The car does run awesome!
You left out the one thing I wanted to know:
What did it cost?
Unfortunately we didn't have a chance to take this car to the dyno.
Wow.. I drooled. Just needs some euro R tails and a unicorn horn. Amazing build.
This customer does not like the R tails and specifically opted against having them installed.
Congrats on a well thought out build from A to Z. Was curious if you left internals stock and I did not see a boost gauge in the pics. Being Stage 3 I would imagine the owner would want to keep an eye out on his boost levels.
Looks Amazing with or without the OEM Euro LED tails
This car is still running the stock internals.
Horsepower? Was there a boost gauge installed that i missed?
APR has this kit at 443hp on 93 octane. We didn't install a boost gauge, this customer wanted the car to be a total sleeper, and have no interior changes (hence the hidden radar as well).
Okay. Not a crazy number to go balls out.
It certainly transforms the car!
It doesn't look like he had a boost gauge installed. If you look at the last engine bay shot he doesn't have a tap at all.
Yeah I'd say he still had a few thousand in labor on top of that though.
You're correct, no boost gauge.
What offset are those HRE's?
These were done to HRE's recommended specs, which are posted by TLud below.
Depends on wheel width, but I run a 15mm spacer on stock R wheels which have a 51mm off set, effectively making the off set 36 on a 7.5" wide wheel, or is it 8" wide, I can't remember. If its a 8.5"-9" wheel I bet the off set is somewhere between 42-48
All that and no before and after dyno sheets?
Unfortunately no.
Great looking car. Curious as to why would you do all that stuff and not add a set of LED tails? They would totally complete the outside look.
This guy doesn't like the LED tail light look (I know he's one of the few.
)
That's a very conservative estimate. The hardware listed ran at least $25k and all in with labor was definitely north of $30k. It wouldn't surprise me if the owner sunk as much as he or she paid for the car into these mods.
I'd bet dollars to donuts those are 19x8.5" with et 47, which is the same fitment HRE did for my R.
Yup you're right, 19x8.5 et 47
Yeah I was being on the conservative side because I didn't know if he paid full price since he bought so much at once. I would imagine GMP giving him a bit of a break somewhere. I also gave $1500/wheel as HRE's pricing isn't widely available since they do custom fitments. I'd say he did probably spend as much as the car but I see people doing that a lot. If you can afford a $65-$70k car then this is just like going out and buying one of those, except the resale value is not there.
Exactly, this customer had an E60 M5 that he traded in, he said he loves the R, but needed to make up for the lack of power from the M5.
haha okay, because I have PSS10's on CH's running +35 so I was definitely curious on that. I sometimes I wished I got wheels with a bit of a higher offset
This fitment is nice, a good compromise between looking great, and not having to worry about rubbing when driving aggressively. :w00t:
The MSRP on the P40S series is $1,700 or so, but you can work a deal through them or their retailers for $1,500 per wheel. The SC series like the OP is running is more expensive. Based on my experience, I'd estimate that for wheels and tires, the OP probably paid close to $9k.
I haven't run a spreadsheet on what I've spent on my R (plausible deniability if my wife starts asking questions), but it is definitely north of $20k.
The depreciation on my E92 M3 was depressing, bt you're right, definitely not as bad as selling a modded R as is. If you save your stock R parts, and you're willing to go through the extra effort to part your mods out, you'll do okay.
That's true, but if you keep the car stock you don't get to go through the fun part of transforming your car into something much better! Modding a car is something done for fun, shouldn't ever be seen as an investment.
Yeah, HRE recommended an offset of 47 on an 8.5" wheel, which is what I did. It looks awesome, but if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably go a few less centimeters aggressive (ET50 or so). I'm running the Euro R springs right now, so it's not an issue, but if I ever want to do coilovers, the less aggressive offset would let me go a little lower without rubbing.
At the height this car is at it didn't have any issues with rubbing, even when up in the mountains with several people in the car, but if the car were lowered much more there would probably be an issue.
As investments go, cars are terrible, modded or not. But that's not the whole picture, by any means.
I have a friend who has an R with stage one only, and he says it's the most fun he's ever had driving a car.
This insanely modded car must be crazy fun to drive. Enjoy.
That is exactly what happened here, started with Stage 1, and got hooked!
Awesome build! Loving the HRE's
Thanks! :w00t:
k40
hope you got that system for free

even a center of mass shot right at the diffuser has punch through of over 1000 feet (pretty much as soon as they are firing the lidar unit) It also ignores Ka frequencies above the 36.000 range which some guns reach when they aren't tuned.
k40 is an over priced toy sold to people with $100k+ cars that don't know better.
Only reason it is or was ever a dealer installed option is because the dealer got a $1,500 kickback for each unit they sold plus they could charge for the installation.
We've had great success with all of the K40 systems we've installed in the past, and each one is tested before it leaves here. It should also be noted that that video is from 2009, they systems have been completely redesigned in the 4 years since that video was put on youtube.
you forgot a bunch of parts.
he needs a LSD and engine mounts.
handling wise what about control arms and bushings.
I would opt for a Loba turbo these days over a GT28 or a GTX30.
I'm not sure why the images aren't up from them, but we did install the VWR engine and transmission mount, as well as a torque mount insert. A diff and control arms/bushings would definitely make a big difference, but the car handles great as it sits. :w00t:
