GTI rear end swap advice needed

Ok so my valence came in and I have the stock GTI catback sitting in my house. Just want some people's opinions.

Should I get the res deleted off the GTI catback and run a straight pipe back to the suitcase. Or should I install it with the res. Either way some piping will need to be added I hear because the 2.5 cutback is 6 inchs longer? I don't want it to sound like crap but I really don't want it to sound stock either. Also what is the diameter of piping for the different exhausts will I need to get a reducer kind of piping adapter so it all fits together easily?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I'm looking to get it installed this weekend just would like to know what people think before I make a mistake and eff up this project

I just did this. I had the shop cut out the suitcase muffler and it sounds amazing!

I commute and this method does not have any drone at all, but sounds great when you get on it or driving around the city.

The 2.5 exhaust is longer and has an extra resonator vs the GTI which only has one. See here for the golf cat back. http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26853

The 2.5 if 2.25 inches and the GTI is 2.5 inches.

If you bolt on the GTI directly it wouldn't sound too different/ won't be noticeable.
The resonator delete will sound good, but will have slight drone but not much.

For my car, they kept the first resonator then welded on the GTI catback (because it is shorter) and cut out the suitcase muffler to be replaced with a Y-Pipe.

I'll try to get a video, but you'll definitely like this set up. It didn't cost a lot either.
Find a good shop and they'll take care of you. I'm lucky because there are 5 around the city I work in so I was able to shop around.

i might do a custom exhaust with the awe 2.5 dual tips.. maybe quad??.. lol everyone is trying to get the gti look.. if you have a 2.5L, you are not going to get much gains (sound and performance) from the swap. but hey, it looks really nice.

GLW installation and keep us posted. :)

you will get a little sound, perfect for myself with a kid in the back and longer communtes. Its been done quite a bit i went the full GTI (mk5 version so no valence change) with a magnaflow res after the cat to take up space. The res has slowly broken in and the sound is nice...and with the intake really nice!

one version

my version

should be same or similar just 2 tips with the new GTi exhaust (i might switch to this)

So I ended up doing the swap took off the old exhaust put on the GTI exhaust as is and just had a pipe welded in in place of our first resonator or whatever that is that the GTI exhaust doesn't have. I was hoping that with out that muffler it would give me the sound I desired but I'm a little disappointed so it will be going back in to the shop to take out the GTI resonator also but I am thinking if I cut out the resonator and put in one of these http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=34_237_238&products_id=4308

Do u think it will give me a better sound I don't wanna just delete the res and sound like a riced out civic with a fart can. I want it to be done right I don't want drone and I'm thinking maybe that in place of the res would sound nice. Any one have any input
