What size tire?

Walter2

Ready to race!
Will be going with 18x8.5 VMR v710's. I will not be lowering the car abd want a tire for daily driving and commuting. Thinking about going 235/45/18. Will I rub with this size?

im gonna guess vmr's offset is at 45 if you DONT lower it, you'll be fine

235/45R18 is too tall - stock is 225/40R18, you don't want to go with a higher aspect ratio than that. 225 * .4 = 3.5" sidewalls. You want to stay as close as possible to that sidewall height. 235 * .45 = 4.2" which is much too tall, you will throw off the speedometer and possibly rub. 235 * .4 = 3.7" which is more acceptable.

Proper size is 235/40R18, if you want to go wider.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html is a great resource for seeing size differences.

who = OP, walter did... you were not being corrected...

agree with roastpuff - when upping the width, you'd never up the sidewall too - if anything you'd lower it. the sidewall number is a percentage of width...

and that calc is great, used it myslef many a time...

EDIT: looked at discounttiredirect.com for a list of what they consider acceptable tire sizes... and 3% is considered acceptable variation (235/45 is 4.9% off)

225/40-18 = stock
215/45-18 +2.1% diff
235/40-18 -1.3% diff
245/35-18 -1.3% diff
245/40-18 +2.5% diff
