And in a democracy their opinion matters as much as yours.

Don't disagree, doesn't mean they can't be called out for their stupidity either.

And in their opinion you might be stupid too.

Hey guys, I like America, please dont ruin it for me.

This thread was very entertaining, Ive got to say it was the best 7 pages Ive seen here since the APR vs Uni battle a few months back. I have very little political knowledge and alignment but I find this arguing back and forth about whos right or wrong or the "single right answer" cute. I almost forgot we live in a county and appoint people to better it, not fight for their own pockets.

Republicans in congress keep passing it and Obama keeps signing and using it. Democrats in congress have consistently voted against the patriot act with the exception of its first introduction right after 9/11

Not true man. Democrats had a filibuster proof senate, the house and the white house. They extended the patriot act in the first half of Obama's first term

Originally when it was passed in 2001, Russ Feingold was the only one in the Senate to vote against it. I think around 60 people in the house voted against it including Ron Paul who was been warning us of this bs forever

I mean I'm not trying to stick up for any one group here. These politicians and pundits want to know what the consequences will be for Snowden. Well I want to know what the consequences are for the government throwing the constitution out the window. These FISA courts should be thrown out, and the Supreme Court better hear this ACLU suit.

Crazy when libertarians and communists are on the same page lol. I think some interesting bipartisan coalitions may be formed out of this. Maybe Rand Paul, Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz LOL......

I like Bernie Sanders a lot - for the most part.

My sentiments exactly:clap:

But he's right... the technology and means available to intrude on our privacy is only going to get more powerful, not less. And arguably more "necessary", not less. All it will take is one or two more domestic events. I almost see it as inevitable that one day everything you do will be monitored and tracked.

I disagree with his view of the role of government but that's about it. He isn't in anyone's pocket. He even went after the fed in a hearing and I was really pleased about that. He isn't the status quo for sure.

Not true? This isn't debatable. Check the voting records. And the democrats have never had filibuster proof numbers with Obama. Youre just objectively wrong here.
