"Volkswagen of America Announces 41 Percent Increase for March Sales"

Volkswagen of America Announces 41 Percent Increase for March Sales
TDIŽ Clean Diesel, Tiguan and Routan Models Drive the Brand

HERNDON, Va., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported March 2010 sales of 22,148 total units, for a 40.9% increase over March 2009, and its ninth consecutive month of sales growth. For the year-to-date, Volkswagen's sales have risen 38.4% versus the same timeframe in 2009.

VW-US Snapshot ---YEAR-TO-DATE-------
--------------
March- March- Yr/Yr March- March- Yr/Yr
10 09 % 10 YTD 09 YTD %
Actual Actual change Actual Actual change
------------------------- ------ ------- ------- -------- ------- -------
Rabbit/Golf 1,188 698 70.2% 2,610 2,187 19.3%
------------------------- ----- --- ---- ----- ----- ----
GTI A5/A6 1,746 461 278.7% 3,957 1,482 167.0%
Check out those numbers on the GTI!! They almost quadrupled from March of '09 and well ahead of doubled YTD over March '09.

If this keeps up, and it starts sinking in with the dealers as to what is happening, the days of skinny deals may be nearing an end. Food for thought.

Your thoughts?

It must be all the great press the GTI is getting.

As much as I'd like to say it's because it is a great car, which it is, I believe to sell many cars you need exposure/press/advertising.

Yeah I don't really like the increase...In my San Diego area I haven't seen another mk6 around and I'm LOVING IT!!! But more mk6's around means more companies making parts which leads to more options and cheaper prices.

It is just weird seeing the GTI outselling the Golf.

The silver lining is that VWoA might be encouraged to bring more performance oriented cars (Scirocco, Scirocco R, GTI R, etc.) over due to the great GTI sales.

Plus it means more cars in the junkyards to scavenge in the future

If it's like that in San Diego, no wonder I don't see any MKVI's (GTI or not) in this area at all.
