GTI Makes Car and Driver's Best Handling Car in America for Less Than $100K

I thought this was pretty cool and surprising. I think it was the best front-wheel-drive handling car since there's other cars like the Lotus Exige that I'm surprise didn't make the list.

A Lotus Exige would run circles around a GTI.

Give this a read:

Then this:

"Then we had a lively boardroom vetting process to choose from our favorites—10Best winners, comparo champs—making sure we had representatives from all of the major driveline configurations."

This is why I don't even bother subscribing to C&D or R&T anymore. Their comparos always seem to reflect who their sponsors are.

1) If you read the GTI piece, they give it high marks for comfy seats and having the lowest performance limits to explore. Everything else seems to detract from that weak praise they offer. Too high center of gravity, steering good but not great, top heavy and front heavy. Really all they seem to be saying is "It's fun because it doesn't really handle all that well compared to these actual sports cars over here, so it's easier to feel like you're doing something fun without killing youself."

2) Why no Mini? Even the base model will have have a higher handling threshold than the GTI. :yikes:
