If you are tranny braking with an automatic, yes the brakes are holding back the force of the car trying to move forward, but not with the DSG transmission

If the clutch weren't disengaged, you'd just be burning it until you finally decided to go.

Not anymore than when the car is stationary at a red light. The brakes fade from friction. If there is no forward force (which there isn't since the clutch is disengaged), then there is no friction.
