Am I overreacting?

When I picked up my brand new 2010 GTI, I had noticed a scratch on the hood (possibly from the "detail" they give the vehicle before delivery), a smallish dent on the hatch, the front bumper was misaligned slightly, and the hatch door misaligned as well. I pointed them out, naturally. I did not however, have a hissy fit and ask that they fix everything.

Why? Well, quite simply put... the dealership's "body specialists" would most likely make these minor flaws worse, and add more if anything. I'd rather take my car to my bodyshop guy and have him work out the kinks. I just trust my judgement more over the dealer's suggestion to "repaint the hood" versus a simple cut/polish the scratch away on the hood.

Lastly, who wants to piss off the dealer that will be eventually servicing your car?

They are no longer servicing my car.

That scratch on the steering wheel comes from wearing a ring, and keeping your hand lightly on the leather steering wheel and letting the steering wheel return to center after coming out of a turn. Usually at a stop sign where you are turning and you just leave the hand slightly touching the wheel. The ring will rub, and because it's leather it will scratch like you see. In your case it looks like a right hand turn (based on the scratch marks). This happens all the time with people who wear a ring with a leather steering wheel. Not saying it was you, but if you wear a ring on your right hand... there you go. If not you... look at the sales guy's hand who sold you the car.

And yes, I agree Myers is the worst VW dealership in Ottawa. Not that ByTek is much better, but it's day for night comparatively. Anything not warranty related I would take to your local VW specialist and give them the work. They'll work harder for your cash, and ultimately appreciate the work more.

Yeah could be a ring, which I do not wear.

When I was shopping around for mine, I went to myers and got the hell outta there in a matter of minutes. I just had this gut feeling that the place wasn't fit for my needs as I demand pristine service when I buy a car. Just the way they welcomed me. I felt like a fish in a tank. Just a hypocrite way of talking to me just to have my business.

I would definitely recommend Andrew Quadling at Bytek. No pressure, solid knowledge.

Oh god, I would avoid Bytek and Andrew like the plague. I must say that I had a very pleasant experience with buying my GTI from Myers... in fact it's the first time I've bought a car where I actually enjoyed the experience.

The only part I didn't like was having to wait for my car to be delivered :D

Well Spritzup, to each his own. Andrew was amazing for us. Wouldn't buy from Myers ever - they had an "I don't care if you buy from us or not" attitude. If I hadn't bought at Bytek it would have been Hunt Club VW.

thats the problem with buying a new car... no possible way you will find every flaw in a couple hours of inspection before you buy it.. you find the flaws after you have bought it.

very unlikely you caused it. more likely it came that way, or prep inspection scratched it with something.

i hate buying new cars... this shit always happens.

yup. when you buy new, every little thing is magnified by 100x as opposed to buying used. this coming from someone who has purchased 4 new cars since 2004...it has happened on every single one.
