I have been recently. I am originally from Portland but currently stationed in San Diego, CA. I just love shooting when I go back home.

Question about mounting the hardware into the door jambs. Does anyone notice if they damage the paint? I am reluctant on getting a roof rack because of this. Thanks.

I did not notice any damage to my paint. The brackets sit nicely flush against the contour of the door. And the pin at the front doors is a no-brainer for lining up the rack location--so are the guide arrows at the rear (on a 2dr at least).

On the Passat however, I did have some scratching from the brackets. I had to use a shop towel and pliers to slightly bend the brackets so they sally more flush. Now there is no more scratching, but I suppose the damage is already done.....

Whisbar all the way. simple, clean lines, low profile, no noise.

They include a clear bra material to go on the metal straps so there's no metal on metal contact.

I'll just leave this here. I actually own an oem rack and Whispbar. Detailed comparison inside.

A question for you guys with 4 doors; Is it possible to fit the bars further back, or are there fixed points on the roof/inside the doors they need to be fitted to.

Considering an Mk6...

Switched from aero blade to whispbar

I made the switch from my previously posted pics of my aeroblade to the whipsbar. Why? A few reasons. One is that Jason3d kept posting pics of his ride and there is no denying how sweet it looks with the whispbars mounted. Another reason is that the aeroblades just looked bulky to me. A third one came after the whispbars were mounted and is that the whispbars are quieter than the aeroblades. You hear them, but it is minimal at worst.

I'd post pics, but my car with the whispbars looks a hell of a lot like Jason3d's. My Thule Sonic XL box fits well and the clamps miss the roof, even with the lower profile bars. I couldn't be happier.

Oh, and I'll add that I like the whispbars so much, I think I'll be trading in the aeroblades that I have for the passat for whispbars at rack attack.

Its honestly all personal preference. Besides the price. OEM is super expensive when other brands are cheaper. Thats what the guy at my dealership told me when i wanted to buy there cross bars.
