Wheel specs when going low

I'm mainly looking for what's the maximum I can put on my Volkswagen GTI mk6, I'm looking at 18"x 8.5 and 19" x 8.5 also thinking maybe going staggered front wheels 18"x 8.5 and the back 18"x9.5 and offset +45

Many people run 18x8.5 et 45 no problem. Including myself. I think anything wider you have to roll fenders and start running a narrower tire than stock.

I ran 18x8.5 and 9.5 et 38 on air with 205/40 up front and 215/40 in the rear never had an issue. I am currently in the process of going widebody and have rebuilt my wheels to 18x10.5 and 18x11.5 et 14 and im running 255/35 in the rear and 235/40 in the front. Also I do have the rear camber arms and have a tad bit of camber in the rear.
