That's a difference of only $65.45, and I don't think I need the adapter (I have a VAGCOM).

Can someone convince me this is a better route to taillight bliss?

My understanding is we need the adapter because there's actual wiring changes. If you read the ECS product description, it mentions they don't support the install of the tails, because of custom wiring *and* VAG-com coding changes.

I believe we need both adapters *and* VAG-com if your car didn't come with LED tails already.

I think Tim is correct. It also mentions the same thing on BKS' website.

You do need both, in having a conversation with someone about this, the adapters are for the physical install then the vagcom is needed to get them working correctly.

This.

Vagcom is coding that needs to be done in order to get the reverse lights to work. Adapters are a must for any install.

If you are going with the fog option you will also need to replace the light switch by your steering wheel with the EU one which also involves some wiring and more vagcom coding.

I will post a link to the switch when I get a moment to look.

.
I know the adapters are a must for physical install. Unless you want to clip wires and manually wire them up (dumb!).

As far as the VAGCOM issues, BKS does sell tail lights code dongles. I know these are not included and must be purchased separately. However, does anybody know what exactly these do. Will they keep the bulb out light from going? Will they enable both reverse lights?

I'm not going to my dealer and there's nobody with a VAGCOM for hundreds of miles around here.

This might have to be an email to BKS. They do list a US version of the taillights, so I'm hoping that when I order the dongle it's the right thing.

I believe US version just means no fog.

I'm not certain what the dongle does.

I've contacted BKS with our higher numbers, still no response, but as i said in the original post, the way they list their prices, it tops out at 21+, so no guarantees of a lower price...

I'm not here to convince anybody of anything. You most definitely need the adapters, so this will still end up being a bit cheaper, but the choice is yours and yours alone. Just be sure of your decision b4 adding yourself to the list. thx...

Honestly not sure what the dongles do, i only know that with the adapters and vagcom, they are not needed. My guess would be that if you also get the dongles, you may not need vagcom, but this is ONLY A GUESS...

I was on the BKS site, and didn't see any US version of these lights. As far as i know, there is no US version of these lights, because no US spec cars have LEDs. please provide a link...***EDIT*** I see what you mean by US version, and yes, as somebody mentioned above, this just selects the no fog option. In Europe, the rear fog is mandatory in many countries, so the other two selections, LHD or RHD, states which side the rear fog should be on...

If i missed any questions, let me know.
