Considering a new GTI, pricing help

Been a long time Ford guy, having owned dozens of mustangs. Currently have a 2013 Mustang Gt. Recently had a kiddo and am growing tired of the two door mustang, not to mention the mustang is not the best made car. Am in the process of having the motor replaced under warranty with 3600 miles on it. So am considering a GTI.

The local dealer is where I have bought my last 6 ford vehicles and they have always been aggressive on pricing (invoice plus any rebates). They also sell VW. Over the weekend I drove a 4 DR GTI with the DSG and liked it. Its a white 4dr with Convenience and Sunroof, DSG. It's window sticker is $29,460 (has rubber mats and first aid kit?). They offered "invoice" pricing of 28,200 or so. They are about 1k higher on my trade in than KBB has it at so good on that end. My question is after reading on here some the "invoice" price dealers are offering is maybe not the actual invoice price. That being said what is a realistic price for this car? Where can you find actual invoice?

Thanks for any help guys, sorry kind long winded. Just don't want to make a mistake. Also any input on the DSG is welcome (problems, reliability etc).

Not a great price really. I was just offered 26,500 yesterday for a 4 DR DSG Sunroof and Navi...a package that is 1500 more than the one you're looking at. That was without any negotiation beyond emailing the internet sales department at the dealership that I've generally gotten the 2nd best prices in the area from. By the way...I'm in Seattle where things are usually more expensive than other parts of the country.

Ok thanks. So the "invoice" price they are offering isn't really and invoice price? Is there anyway to find that?

Gtis are great cars they are super fun to drive and a lot of people love them! Just make sure to get manual. My friend has a DSG and I hate it.

Man I have searched three dealers and no one has a manual car. I test drove the DSG and kind of liked it, why do you hate it? Thanks for your input.

Also anyone have a good dealer they would recommend in the central texas area. Have called two and they both are saying 1500 or so off MSRP and that's it.

that GTI should be $24k - $25,500 at most. maybe things are cheaper here in California. we have $5000 off MSRP everywhere here lately. we can show you some websites that quote that price. then take it to them, and say you will buy out of state if they dont match it.

3 of them, all $5000 off.

Hmmm that's strange. I drove the DSG and it honestly doesn't feel that well. My friend has a Dsg stage 2 apr and you still can barley feel a kick. I have the manual GTI and I love how it drives. With clutch I've always felt like you get more control of the car. Which is what I'm all about.

I wouldn't concern myself with what the "invoice" price is...it's pretty irrelevant to the process and it's really just a made up number anyway considering the dealer holdbacks and bonuses for making certain quota tiers anyway. It seems like they just bring out the invoice price to pull on your heartstrings...the proverbial "my kids gotta eat" situation. Ignore it.

Do your research online...I would use truecar to find out a ballpark number although their numbers are usually a little high. Then email all your area dealers asking for a quote then systematically see if each dealer will beat the lowest quote you get back until only one is left standing.

I'm looking at around 26.5 for the same options as well. The only problem is you forgo the special 0% financing when you dip below invoice. But normal interest rates are pretty decent anyhow.

From past experience, the DSG Has been reliable for me, even driving around modified for over 60k miles.

From what i can tell i just brought new 13 GTI/DSG/4DR Wolfsburg for 21460. End of story. You can push dealers if you have some patience.

How much did you pay for your Drivers Edition? If you don't mind me asking..

Because I recently bought a 2013 Driver's Edition for closer to 31K... Buyers remorse may be setting in... Granted, Ohio could be altogether different.

mine was different. used. had 2,200 miles. i paid $24,200 after tax

dood, a standard DE should cost around $27k at most... sorry bout that.

I wish I could find a DE lightly used like Plac did so I can get back into the GTI family. There are just no DE's available on the used market up here in Seattle. I'm wondering if there will be some crazy deals on Black Friday that will convince me to pull the trigger...supposedly it's the best day to car shop but I have my doubts.

Overall, you should be able to get a great deal on a "new" '13 model. 5k off MSRP isn't unreasonable. It really helps to have several VW dealers in the area to compare pricing. They get very competitive with each other (at least in Austin), since there are 3 of them.
