Hoping to Own a GTI Soon
Hey all you Golfmk6ers, The Name is Jeff and I'm very pleased to a part of the GolfMK6 Boards.

A Little about me.

Currently I'm 35 and most likely will always be a kid at heart.
I was bitten by the Mod Bug somewhere back in 1997 and just can't shake the sickness.
It started with a '93 Toyota Corolla, Then after totaling that in November of '99,I Moved into the Honda Scene.
That's where the sickness really took over.
Spending Thousands upon Thousands of dollars on my cars, Always having some sort of DIY project going on, Street Racing with all of my Pals until 4:30 in the morning, Building My Own Aftermarket Performance Parts Business that lasted 4 years,........And the problems just snow balled from there. :D

It went from a '99 Acura Integra and '00 Civic Si.......

At the same time There was the '97 Kawasaki ZX7R that I pretty much completely rebuilt from ground up, It took 2.5 months of straight work to make her look and run Perfect.

To FINALLY, The Next Project..................

The 2013 - Carbon Steel Grey GTI, 3-Door w/convenience and sunroof | 6MT | !!!!

On November 7th, The start of my week long Vacation from work, My Mercedes started acting funny.
I took her into a local Mercedes Mechanic here in Tampa to see what the problem could be.
After being on the computer for 30 minutes, The Mechanic told me it looks like the Transmission is on it's way out.
Either pony up around $2700 for a soft rebuild or start looking for another option (New Car).
After leaving the Mechanics, with no idea what kind of new car I wanted, I passed a VW dealer.
A very clean and lightly modded white MK6 GTI sitting out by the road of the dealership caught my eye and I had no choice but to make a U-turn.

After haggling with the salesman for about an hour, I decided that car wasn't for me, However, The GTI was!!!
My Girl and I spent the rest of the day driving around from dealership to dealership, test driving cars and working numbers.
I just couldn't get the GTI out of my mind.
The next Morning My Girl and I took a ride over to my Local VW Dealer.
Bla Bla Bla, Long story short, I ended up Purchasing A Brand New CSG GTI on MY Birthday.
Next Day, Nov. 10th, My Girl and I took the GTI... with only 125 miles on the clock, to Our first VW Meet here in Ellenton Fl.
Rode with a crew of Dubs over the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and got a chance to talk to a ton of cool as hell V-Dub guys and gals.

I got a lot of VW Pointers, Valuable VW info, and a bunch of phone numbers for future VW help.

(Friday 3/15/2013) 4 Months and 5k miles Later, Here we are.
So Far I have a few Mods to boast about, Plans on a whole lot more in the near future.

Happy Easter

So today I got an energy burst.
I decided to finish some projects around the house that have been on my Honey Do List.
Fixed the lighting in the Laundry room, Decided to take the faded lights off the front of the house, clean them, then repaint and fix the pre-existing issues with the wiring.

So while I was waiting for the first coat to dry out on the back porch, I decided to tackle another project I have wanted to do.

DIY Short Shifter Shaft Mod.

Stock Shifter Height and Stock Ring

And there it is, As short as I can get the stock shifter knob to go... Short shifter Mod.

It took all of 45 minutes from Start to Clean Up.
I really enjoyed doing the mod, Just wish it was a bit more drastic.

Guess I'll start looking into a new lower profile Knob/Boot combo within the next couple of weeks along with replacing the Bushings with Solid Aluminum Ones.

Thanks!!

took the car out for a spin and came across a minor and potentially annoying issue.
The knob seems to spin while shifting.

So tomorrow I guess I'll have to take the boot back off and fabricate a stabilization notch.

oh the new shift knob looks nice!

Yeah you probably want to do the solid shifter bushings stock shift knob is way too mushy, though even with the solid bushings I still find it a bit sloppy, better though, but still doesnt shift as smoothly as a rod shifter like in the older Hondas

Good start man! I'm from Tampa too. Also on TR. Don't go on there anymore because there is too many Honda's

TR seems to have slowed down a lot the last few years, though the classifieds seems fairly active and it has the local autox schedule for the year.

Yeah, TR.
I've been a Moderator on there since '04, but the last 2 years I rarely post because of all the little boy drama.

if we could scrounge up more V-Dub guys, It would be nice to use the TR VW forums for local meet info and classifieds, like we did on gulfcoasteuros.com before they shut it down.

It was shutdown due to the huge amount of spammers, the facebook group and classified group are fairly active however. Can you update the meet information on TR? I can give you that if you can update it on there just in case

Yeah, That's what I heard.

I can get someone else to do it.
I only have control over the Wheel Classifieds, Chassis & Suspension Tech, and all of the Honda Tech. threads.

5/18/13

Today I decided to start another small project for the GTI.

A few months back, I ordered the whole exterior and interior shebang of DeAutoKey White and Red LEDs.
A few weeks after the LED installation, I had a white Dome LED crap out on me.
I contacted DeAutoKey about the dud bulb, and he instantly assured me there would be a replacement on it's way.
during the same personal message transaction, I asked how much he would charge me If I could get 2 Red wedge bulbs thrown in the same package.
He said, it would be no charge since there was a minor inconvenience of the dead white bulb.

Two business days later, There was an envelope in my mailbox with three Brand New DeAutoKey LEDs. One White and two Red.
That made me extremely Happy!!!
I have to say, DeAutoKey has made quite the Impression on me.

Anywhozzle, back to the project.......

I wanted the 2 Red LEDs to install under the Driver and Passenger seats.
Since I have the front Foot wells light up Red, It only look uniformed to have a red glow down in the rear foot wells.

Several years back I did an HID Retrofit on a Honda Accord using Acura TSX projectors that I salvaged from a wrecked US spec TSX.
Apparently I kept the City Light holders from the housings, and just recently came across them in my parts box.
The DeAutoKey bulbs fit perfectly, however I didn't have the wire harness.
I had to make a new pigtail harness.
Yesterday I bought clips and connectors from AutoZone, and a roll of 25' 18awg. Red/Black wire.

Today I had a few free minutes to make the wire pigtail.
Here are a couple pics of the pieces that were used.

I'm using the quick connect clips to butt into the front footwell wires.
I haven't crimped the connector to the wire just yet, I need to run the wire in the car and cut the excess wire before I crimp.

just making sure the pigtail and LEDs work before I hard wire it up, Damn these little things are bright.

More Pics will follow tomorrow after work when I get a chance to install everything.
