Wont go into 2nd at high RPM

I was doing some hard acceleuation today. Wound it up to 6,000 in first, clutched in and went for second only to have the shifter bounce off the gate. There was so much resistance it would not go into second until revs dropped. It fet exactly like the interlock that keeps you from downshifting into first at speed but i was shifting up. Any ideas?

Yeah, don't floor it in first gear. Things tend to break.
