The Official Driver Gear/VWR Spring Thread

Finally decided i need to install some driver gear springs on my GTI. My question is should i also replace the strut bushings even though the car is only at 24k miles?

But I went with TT versions that are supposed to be stiffer, so that's what I would recommend.

x2 on this

Go with the TT mounts & new strut bearings & the new strut mount bolts (yours might be a little rusty)....good price here:

It's a judgement call. Mine had 120k and were still in good shape. But I went with TT versions that are supposed to be stiffer, so that's what I would recommend.
Thanks for the quick reply, ordered the stock ones from shopdap hopefully i can cancel before they ship.

Hey, late to the party but have been looking into suspension for awhile now. I have only 26k miles on my car and know the struts have plenty of life left and not looking to break the bank on coil-overs quite yet. I'm going to get the VWR sport springs for my 2013 GTI 4DR DSG. I know I'll get the TT mounts and also replacement bolts and nuts. I contacted a local shop that has done a really good job with installing my mods. He did state that since I have the Tyrolsport stiffening collars for the front that any lowering with the springs could keep me from getting any camber adjustment that may be needed after lowering since it's usually the subframe that will get adjusted to compensate for the camber and the collars obviously take any movement away in the subframe. Since these don't lower much more than an inch I shouldn't be too worried but just he was just saying this to be aware if there were to be any issues once installed. Do any of you have the VWR sport springs and Tyrolsport stiffening collars and can relate from experience?

There isn't any camber adjustment in the front.
Shifting the subframe can only try and equal it out, if needed.
(say it's -1 and -0.8.....center it & it'd be -0.9 on each side) But most shops don't take the time to do it, and even then you'd want them replacing all those bolts again IMO.

BUT, theoretically, the subframe collars center the subframe and therefore no adjustment of the subframe should be needed.
On my Tiguan, with the collars, the camber was 0.1 off from the other side...so almost identical and even if you wanted to shift it....it would have made it just 0.1 off on the other side (there was not way to equal it out).
And then with another suspension setup I had, with the collars, it was dead on identical side to side.

That said, there is a TINY bit of adjustment/play at the strut tower with the strut mount & the strut mount bolts still

Ahhh I see. Thanks for the input. Then I should be in the clear. They told me they would have me come back once the springs settled and check the alignment.

Ready to race!
About to install my VWR springs with a set of Koni STR.T's. I'm sitting at just under 39K, should I replace my endlinks while I'm under there? Also, when looking at the suspension hardware kits, are new rear shock mounts really necessary?

At 39k....it wouldn't be a bad idea

You're putting in new shocks/struts, so it'd be silly to have a older component/link in the "suspension chain" that is cheap to replace IMO.
(plus you remove them when you install the struts anyways)

So yeah...I'd replace the end links & the rear mounts and you'll have a "new"/refreshed setup with the rest of your new components

Good price on the rear shock mounts, btw:

Those ARE the OEM ones, just with the VW logo removed (Sachs is the supplier to VW)

Thanks for your input man, definitely makes sense. I will go ahead and swap those out. Any suggestions on the end links? I'm looking at both kits from Urotuning, these plus end links are all I need, right?

I'd go with ECS Tuning for the front strut mounts & bearings....that Uro Tuning kit would be $20 more it looks like.

Febi TT ones are $30/each from there & free shipping: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-febi-parts/front-upper-strut-mount-priced-each/8j0412331~feb/
Plus add the strut bearings (FAG or SKF, your choice) for $11-12/each:
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-skf-parts/upper-strut-bearing-priced-each/6n0412249c~skf/
https://www.ecstuning.com/b-fag-parts/upper-strut-bearing-priced-each/6n0412249c~ina/
Then add Febi strut bolt kit: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-febi-parts/spindle-pinch-hardware-kit-one-side/n90954801s1~feb/
Strut mount bolts: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/heavy-duty-hex-bolt-priced-each/n10127707/

That Uro rear kit has all the extra bolts, but a little pricey & overkill, IMO.
Rear Sachs shock mounts: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-sachs-parts/rear-shock-mount-priced-each/1k0513353g~sac/
If you still want new bolts and what not though, just search on ECS for them. (URO Tuning had the part numbers listed)

Front endlinks...I prefer OEM, but they're like $50/each.
Lemforder (which is most likely the OEM version) would be my next choice, but they're $32/each.
The rest....pick your choice, lol. I'd avoid the super cheap ones though:

So I have a mind on VWR or DG springs.
I'm currently on H&R Super Sports but I guess because I'm starting to feel old and the wife has been complaining so many times, I want to raise the car up by a bit.

My eyes are on VWR or 4DR Manual DG springs. I have a 4 door DSG.

Would the VWR or 4DR Manual DG Springs be a better fit for daily driving?

Is the VWR lower or would 4 DR manual DG Springs on a 4 door DSG be lower?
Assuming both springs won't give me rubbing issues running on VMR wheels, I want about 1.5 finger gap all around.

The VWR's are stiffer than the DG's

Search for pics of each & then decide from there

Have all the parts in. The VWR springs are of a very nice quality. Now just waiting to save up a little and get them installed. Went with all the hardware you recommended.
