"Corner Lights" in MFD?

Anyone know what this feature is under the "assistant" page? Checking/unchecking has no effect on any exterior light functions (including the fog light turning feature).

That option is for the Xenon projectors swivel left and right as you take a turn to help you see slightly better around a corner. You might have seen it do the up/down, left/right diagnosis routine when you start the car with the headlights on.

The Golf6 uses the Xenons as the "Dynamic cornering light" and can be modified to also use the foglights as "static cornering lights." I have seen the MFD menu of a 2010 model also listed as "bend lights" instead of "Corner Lights"

An important safety criterion is visibility, i.e. being visible and making others visible. The frequently used slogan “see and be seen” is the catchy simplification of this principle. Here, too, Volkswagen offers systems that assist the driver and improve safety.

Xenon headlights with dynamic and static cornering lights improve illumination of the area the vehicle is turning into by up to 90%.

With dynamic cornering lights, the beam of light follows the turning angle of the steering wheel above a speed of 10 km/h. Actuating motors in the headlight units swivel the headlights according to steering angle and vehicle speed in order to light up the bend as effectively as possible. To avoid dazzling oncoming traffic, the sweep of the dynamic cornering lights is restricted to 15 degrees. This system helps the driver to sooner pick out the course of the bend as well as obstacles, people or animals. The driver gains additional response time, and the risk of accidents is reduced considerably.

When the vehicle is stationary, an additional reflector with a separate halogen bulb behind the parking light reflector performs the function of the static cornering light. When the steering wheel is turned or the indicator activated, this static light illuminates the area the vehicle is turning into at an angle of about 35 degrees and several metres wide. This means that pedestrians waiting next to the vehicle can be seen by the driver sooner and better. The static cornering light's signalling effect also catches the attention of other road users.

Also, if you take a long sweeping left to right turn, you'll be able to see the xenon headlights change directions on the road.
Turn off the setting and try again and you won't see it follow the curve.
