Care to explain how bigger means more protection? With that mindset you should sell your GTI and buy a Crown Victoria.

Well, it's fairly simple. And you made my point with your analogy. In general, more material present has more ability to absorb the forces exerted toward your child. That of course assumes the material is designed to do so and not just made to look pretty. Hence my point on the Britax.

for the infant car seat, we used a "First Years" and bought 4 bases with "latch" system (my car, wifes car, mother in law car ect..):

You could take it off of the base and use it our stroller

with out having to transfer the baby from one to the other. After 20 lb. we moved to a Britax 70

which i saw someone on this forum using in their GTI (it partly why i bought a GTI 4 door). When the baby was less then 20 lb I had a Scion TC which is a 2 door and It was breaking my back getting him in and out. The GTI has made life much better (in more ways then one). Baby is 27 lb now and I'm thinking of turning the Britax forward facing. We almost got this one;

we got the evenflo embrace 35 which is basically going to live in the tiguan unless we absolutely must take my GTI. its a pain with the 2 door. we did on the other hand order 2 reccaro convertible/to booster whatever seats the sable and this other one for when she's forward facing up to 95lbs or whatever it is. forward facing in the back of the 2 door GTI would be fine. its the rear facing thats a bitch.

Got the Peg Prego... Works well in my two door. No problems. I actually have more space then my wife's EX35!

Congrats.

For an infant seat, my wife and I used a Peg Perego Primo Viaggio Sip. It worked well in the GTI.

Once my daughter was uncomfortable in the SIP I grabbed a Britax Marathon 65. It is a great seat and my daughter is really comfortable in it. The only downside is that most people in the passenger seat wish that they could recline a bit more. I think this would be worse in the US where I believe the seat is slightly larger.

Hubs has a 2-door and tiny tot has been riding in this since she came home from the hospital. Took it with us on the plane when we flew to germany and it fit just fine in the rental there too. Basically will be the only seat you have to buy from birth till they are done with seats. Has three levels of recline too, so even at almost 2 she can sit upright and have proper support when rear facing. She will stay rear facing until she has reached the weight limit of the seat for rear facing.

And to the PP who said they are turning thier kid fowards because they are 27lbs...don't. Weight plays no factor in your child's safety. Age and height are much more important. The neck muscles need to be properly developed (typically between ages 2 and 3) in order to prevent an internal decapitation in case of an accident. And no, just because your kids legs looked cramped doesn't mean they will be injured in an accident. It is actually extremely rare for children to suffer broken limbs when properly secured in a car seat.

We used the chico keyfit 30 as well in my 4 door gti. It worked out great in size, weight, and safety. The stroller was a great add-on too. I dont think there is a better infant seat available, but the kid will grow out of it after about 1 to 1.5 years though. We now use britax marathon classic and fit 2 of them in the back no problem.

My wife and I own a baby shop, I can say without a doubt the Keyfit is one of the best sellers we've seen. Got to be something to it.
