Might pick up a MkV Jetta.

I'm looking for a project. I don't want anything old.

I found an '05 MkV Jetta with a little over 100k miles on it in Florida.

It looks to be a base with an auto. Which is the tip, so it's not a huge deal to me.

The car is $6,991. I'm thinking I can get them to $6,500 or maybe even $6,000, seeing as it's a Nissan dealer. They probably don't have much in it.

How strong are the 2.5's as they rack up mileage? I know some of this depends on maintenance, but in general, how do they fair?

I know they have a timing chain, so that's not a huge worry, either.

If I do pick it up, I'll probably do Mk6 GTI suspension and maybe some Classix and a nice exhaust. Fun little beater/could track it if I wanted to.

Thoughts?

the 2.5 is great...the only things to check are if the ecu update has been done and if the coil packs got changed(recall)

the 2.5 has a lot of potential if you wanted to put money into it...most people just don't find the cost worth the benefits...i was getting ready to do an awd turbo rabbit, but i decided getting a gti would be better for me at this point in my life

that should be your project!
bag it!

Well...

It popped a head gasket today.

Looks like I'll be looking for an F2T out of a Probe GT. Factory turbo.
