Officially Official: Volkswagen establishes R brand

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/16/o...ishes-r-brand/

Ever since Volkswagen pulled the wraps off of the Golf R and Scirocco R, it was rumored that the automaker would be creating a separate R division, solely focused around creating new performance models, as well as special design packages. The new company, Volkswagen R GmbH, will take on the responsibilities of developing, implementing and selling R-badged products henceforth.

By making R GmbH its own separate division, we'd expect to see more R-badged products hitting the streets in the near future. The new Passat CC R-Line is already on sale in Europe, and the rumormill is buzzing about a possible Jetta R, previewed by the New Compact Coupe concept at this year's Detroit Auto Show. The Golf R is expected to arrive in North America next year, and we sincerely hope that R GmbH delivers more products our way shortly thereafter. Hit the jump for Volkswagen's official press release.

Sounds like a good plan to create more revenue just like Audi's S-line which is just cosmetic updates.

Hmmm...interesting...are the .:R cars going to cost even more than they already do then? Kinda like AMG, Bathurst, Abarth, Shelby...and all the other "outsourced" retuners...

At least Audi's S-line includes suspension changes. It looks the first thing out of the gate for the R-line (as its own division), a CC, doesn't even have that: http://www.autoblog.com/2009/12/16/v...ale-in-europe/

Now that is purely cosmetic (although it does look great!). Which is a let-down, because looks are one of the CCs strongest points, so why not improve performance first?

I'm really looking forward to this! Can't wait to see what other R's come out, if any.

Yeah, but hopefully like jwoods stated, they won't just be cosmetic upgrades.
Saw an R-Line CC at the dealership over the weekend, but definitely not worth the upgrade price without any added performance, IMHO.

Cosmetics alone just don't cut it. Has to have the power!

Golf R with 260hp and AWD is very tempting but with the price tag at >$30K it will have some serious competitors such as STi, EVO, BMW 1er and so on.
