Car dies when giving gas

Recently it's been cold here in philadelphia. the car has about 96k miles on it. The car has been having trouble starting. It takes a couple turn to actually getting it to start but when it does, there is a rough idle and the engine is shaking. When I actually tried to give it a little gas, the car completely dies. Anyone experienced this issue before? Could it be the air filter or the spark plugs? sorry I am new here and don't really have much experience with cars. any help would be appreciated

Engine shaking is a telltale sign of bad coil packs. When was the last time they were replaced?

I got the car from a dealership 2 years ago. I havent changed it yet so I am not sure when exactly it was replaced. Is coilpack something easy to do ? This only happened when it started getting cold, could coilpack/spark plugs be affected this much by the weather? sorry for the novice questions

Coil packs (and spark plugs for that matter) are super easy to do yourself! Here's a video that shows both: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbraqrculyk

I had this same thing happen to me today and took it to the dealer. They are replacing the fuel pump module under my extended warranty.

Either of the fuel pumps is my guess.

Before you spend loads on a pump. Check your fuel filter, is it the revised one with higher pressure or not?

Get someone to data log high and low pressure fuel systems under load to see what readings they give out.

Those codes are no good :( . There's a chance it could be your camshaft sensor, but it's highly possible you jumped timing. The timing chain tensioner was faulty on earlier MK6 GTI's and can fail, causing the timing to jump. Hopefully this isn't the case, as you would likely have bent valves due to the engine being interference. If you don't have the knowledge/skills to diagnose, I'd recommend NOT starting the car AT ALL and have it looked at by a professional.

The damage can cost thousands of dollars to fix requiring new internals or a completely replaced engine.

Once again, I highly recommend not starting the car at all until it is diagnosed.
