My stock GTI vs. 80's Volvo 850 ish...

I was in the left lane closing in on a car 300 yds ahead. A Volvo stationwagon comes between us about 1/2 way. But the gap between the Volvo and the car ahead started to increase slowly. So I passed the Volvo on the right and went between the two. And the Volvo guy got pissed!!! I signaled and I didn't cut him off. It was all safe and sane maneuver. He then accelerates hard and passes me on the right giving me a mean look. I saw a big opening in the far right lane so I changed my lane and shifted down to 4th and went. Vrrrooooooooomm. And this Volvo guy starts to chase me. I passes several cars and I settled down on the far right lane as my exit was coming up. The guy pulls up next to me on the left and I looked over. The guy must have been about 55 y.o. He was half bald with all grey hair. And his elderly wife was clinging on to her seatbelt. I felt sorry for the lady. It wasn't my fault. She's the one who married the crazy guy.

GTI hauls ASS! I love the sound when I shift it down from 6th to 3rd or 4th and put the pedal to the carpet.:thumbup:

Is this really the reason for this forum? I thought it was about comparing different cars vs the GTI not about childish road rage incidents.

fun story, the volvo guy had some huge ego to tracked you like that :)

and take it easy MSchott, the VS.... means ''against anything'', whatever the context.

When people get angry on the road I find that simply smiling at them and waving sarcastically gets them more angry than shooting them the bird.

on the MKV forum, the vs. section is for races. although there is the occasional road rage story.

The guy in the Volvo is clearly a moron. You were in the left lane, about to pass a car ahead of you and he jumped left in front of you and then failed to execute a pass - impeding your progress. These kinds of drivers are the worst root of road rage on freeways IMHO because they fail to comply with the VERY simple lane discipline of 'Keep Right Except to Pass'.

It's almost like their brains have a faulty subconscious 'switch' that causes them to slow down when they are passing another vehicle ('Ooooh, I'm too scared of that 18 wheeler in the right lane so I'll just slow down to his pace so I'm in the danger zone that much longer."), and then they speed up again once they get passed the slower vehicle. Both of these maneuvers are the exact OPPOSITE of logical lane discipline - which, of course, now forces you to make the decision of either staying behind them and get impeded AGAIN the next time they do the 'pace' move or speed up to ridiculously illegal speeds to finally get around their sorry ass. (Usually in the right lane because they cluelessly cling to the left lane, while a 1/4 mile or more of traffic clogs up behind them).

The fact he chased you down really calls into question his freaking sanity. If the douchebag simply used his cruise control, he'd alleviate 90% of his self-induced stress.

+1 to 'smile and wave'.

i feel like the kiss and wink combo pisses them off even more, ESPECIALLY women!! and if it doesnt piss off men, its just fun seeing their confused/disgusted faces haha!!

I am probably wrong but I guess I thought this forum was to make comparisons of various cars to the Mark VI Golf. Not to post about road rage incidents. The OP is not comparing the Volvo to his car, just relating a road rage story.

If a guy gets pissed after a street race, doesn't it qualify as a road rage?
