New Front Bumper Recommendations

Hey guys,

I've been needing to replace my front bumper for over a year now and I'm going to finally tackle the task this spring. I've got a nice dent from a bike rack in the center of my bumper and 1 of my fog lights also burned through the bumper leaving a nice hole....lol.....smh.

I was looking at the Golf R front bumpers which seem to also be my cheapest option.

I'm not against the Edition 30 bumper or just a new OEM bumper. I'm looking for recommendations as to where I can buy what bumpers for the best price. ECS seems to have both the OEM and Edition 30 but they are super expensive.

Also, is there a difference between these 2 bumpers?

If I do go the golf R conversion route, will I also need to pickup a golf R style grill? I hear the oem gti grill doesn't exactly fit. I'd go with a badgeless R style grill for sure. Don't want my gti with an R emblem lol

They look the same and I like how the amazon one has a customer review and shows fitment.

Yea it just says that the manufacturer is different between the 2 but somehow I think they are both Konzept.

That amazon one was $420 last week when I last checked.

I also know i'll need to pickup some wiring harnesses for the LED's to avoid the bulb out error.

Be careful with Asian made "sort of fits" parts. You'll be chasing your tail with panel gaps and fitment issues.

Very true.

But where is a good place to order a decent bumper cover? I just refuse to pay $8/900 for the cover and then another 3/4/500 for paint. $1,400 just to fix a small hole and dent? No thanks.

I ordered that exact bumper on ebay a while ago. the bumper clips on fine but it needs trimming of the crash bar to properly fit. Keep in mind it is a low quality replica and it looks very ugly in my opinion, nothing close to the OEM one. clips on the grill piece were very flimsy and broke with one install. I ended up returning it and getting a refund. I would't recommend.

Well I didn't need to replace my original, so I just left the GTI bumper on.
Personally If I needed a new bumper I would either pick the R bumper from carid.com (bc it looks much closer to OEM) or go on to taobao.com using an agent like bhiner.

Don't worry because they are legit. Just don't know about fitment or quality with the bumpers because I've never ordered them

Oh I like The Car ID site. Just wish shipping wasn't so crazy. They want to charge $115 for shipping.

Oh awesome! If thats the case I may just go with a new Gti front bumper cover and reuse all the trim/mesh pieces

The konzept ebay golf r bumper I have no complaints really besides the grilles are a pain in the ass to get in but besides that fitment is spot on. Downside is the undertray you get with the bumper is for a gti and not a golf r.

Definitely look for reviews...most of the aftermarket stuff fits terrible as others have mentioned. I got an R bumper on trade, don't know the manufacturer, but the fit is unbearable and the under tray did not fit at all. I know oem costs more, but you know what it will look like when you're done. If you want to really save some money, I have repaired plastic bumpers in the past with some fiberglass cloth and resin.
