The dangers of increasing GTI turbo-boost

The EA888's block is weak, which is the reason that the higher output Audi 2.0 T engines use the old EA113 block.

In its present form, the EA888's lower end (block, rods, pistons, bearings, wrist pins, pistons, etc.) are weak for a turbocharged engine.

False.

The TT-S uses the EA113 engine because it was already built, already has a turbocharger designed for it (the K04 does not fit on the TSI) and was already available on the shelf.

We've flashed our software on ECU's over 100,000 times from 1.8T's to 2.0TSI... You think you'd hear about rods blowing all the time if it was an issue.

Which engine series - the EA113 or the EA888?

With all due respect, I think VW/Audi engineers know more about this than you do and they're altogether avoiding using EA888 engines in their high performance (anything over 227 HP factory rating) factory applications.

And as you know, there's more to an engine than rods...

And what about the OEM lubrication system? Is that capable of properly supplying cool oil in the quantities necessary to cope with the added loads and temperature than result from increased boost levels?

True or false:

VW/Audi does not specify the EA888 engine for ANY 2.0T application exceeding 155 KW (roughly 205 SAE NET HP).

True or false:

VW/Audi engineers specify the EA113 engine, fitted with a host of upgraded components, for all 2.0T applications exceeding 169 KW.

Bottom line, the factory Rods are capable of stage 3 power for years and years and years of usage w/o issues. Stage 1 or 2 is not going to even touch those power levels or even scrape the surface of being dangerous for your motors internals.

LOL!

No disrespect Arin, he made a claim on fail mileage but your counter to his claim was the number of cars flashed. That's just a beautiful dodge to his statement.

ah, yet another reason you should take your gti back to the dealer and trade up for something: faster, lighter and better put together. I personally can't wait for my lease to be up so I can jump on something else. man, what a horrible little car this is.

clearly tons of people would be on these forums with snapped rods if the stage 1, or any of the stages for that matter, did damage to the engine... Arin didnt dodge the question, what hes saying is that after all the tunes APR has provided, people arent complaining bout snapped rods and blown pistons... let alone complaining about not getting high mileage out of their car.

Who cares? Most everyone knows the associated risks of modding cars. If you don’t you should be driving a stock car.

All these “the sky is falling and the GTI is a flaming POS” threads are tiresome.
