What viable clutch options are there for the MK6 ? A look at Clutch Masters

allset

Go Kart Champion
Since there have been some disappointing developments in certain companies that produce kits for our cars, coupled with the slim pickings of other options, i have posted some options from Clutch Masters. They look and read to be well built albeit a bit pricey, the costs vary depending on the kit. The more I research I do and the more people I find running CM kits, the better they look and the prices are justified. As the saying goes, "buy nice or buy twice" definitely applies for clutch kits with the many hours of labor involved with their installation. Its not a component you want to replace any sooner than needed. I know alot of Subie ppl run CM kits on WRX's with no issues.

So food for thought:

FX100: Street Performance
(First link above) Full kit with Flywheel

The FX100 System uses the Power Plus I Pressure Plate with a custom heavy-duty Steel Back Organic friction disc. This clutch is engineered for heavy-duty street use. It is specifically designed for extended wear and additional clamping force for the enthusiast who has added an exhaust system, an intake system, up to 50hp NO2 upgrade, or other non-forced induction external bolt-ons. It features only slightly increased pedal pressure, longer life than stock, and normal clutch feel during engagement and disengagement for a very smooth operation.

All stages come as a complete kit including disc, pressure plate,
throwout bearing, pilot bearing (when applicable), and alignment tool.
(Individual components available upon request)

FX200: Street Longevity (second link above Full kit with Flywheel

The FX200 System uses the Power Plus I Pressure Plate and a Steel Backed Kevlar disc. This clutch is designed for the street enthusiast or weekend racer. The FX200 offers similar torque holding capacity to the FX100, however, its life expectancy is increased 2-3 times with the Kevlar disc. Our Kevlar friction material is non-abrasive and doesn't score the mating surfaces. It features only slightly increased pedal pressure, significantly longer life than stock, and normal clutch feel during engagement and disengagement for the smoothest operation of any stage we offer.

All stages come as a complete kit including disc, pressure plate,
throwout bearing, pilot bearing (when applicable), and alignment tool.
(Individual components available upon request)

FX300: Street/Race (third link above Full kit with Flywheel

The FX300 System uses the Power Plus I Pressure Plate with a Steel Back Segmented Kevlar disc. This clutch is designed for the ultimate street enthusiast or weekend racer running a normally aspirated car equipped with cylinder head work and/or hotter cam(s), or with medium-boost turbo or super-charger, or up to 100hp NO2. The FX300 features only slightly increased pedal pressure, long life disc and positive engagement.

**NOT RECOMMENDED FOR ROAD RACING**

All stages come as a complete kit including disc, pressure plate,
throwout bearing, pilot bearing (when applicable), and alignment tool.
(Individual components available upon request)

FX400: Race Performance (Fourth link above Full kit with Flywheel

The FX400 System uses the Power Plus I Pressure Plate with a custom, extremely durable, Sprung Ceramic disc. This is the ultimate extreme duty street and/or road/drag racing system. It is available in a 4 or 6 wing (paddle) configuration, with the 4-wing being the more aggressive setup (please specify which type you prefer). The sprung hub design allows for moderate dampening in high-torque applications, rendering it much more streetable than solid or rigid designs. This disc is designed for long life, outstanding holding capacity, and rapid heat dissipation.

Warning: Due to the solid (no Marcel) friction rivet design, the FX400 disc engages very quickly and may chatter slightly in first and reverse. To help alleviate this problem, we only use premium ceramic friction material.

All stages come as a complete kit including disc, pressure plate,
throwout bearing, pilot bearing (when applicable), and alignment tool.
(Individual components available upon request)

Options for use with MK6 GTI OEM Dual Mass Flywheel

Clutch Masters offers a pressure plate and disc only kit with either a rigid disc (17375-HDTZ-R) which works with the OEM DM Flywheel, or a dampened disc (17375-HDTZ-D) which works with our steel flywheel.

FX500: Race Only!

The versatile FX500 System uses either the Power Plus I or Power Plus II Pressure Plate along with a solid center 4 or 6 wing (paddle) Ceramic Button disc. It is designed for maximum holding capacity with no compromises.

Warning: The FX500 is a Solid Hub (rigid) disc that engages and disengages instantly. This is a Race Only clutch.

All stages come as a complete kit including disc, pressure plate,
throwout bearing, pilot bearing (when applicable), and alignment tool.
(Individual components available upon request)

725/850: Twin Discs

Clutch Masters is proud to introduce the finest and most economical multi-plate clutch systems available for today’s high performance vehicles, the 725 and 850 Series. Clutch Masters Twin Disc systems are pure racing technology that also works well in high performance street applications. They are designed to hold tremendous horsepower and torque ratings, while retaining a very smooth operation. By slightly increasing the clamping force of the pressure plate and adding to the square inches of usable disc area, CM Twin Discs significantly increase clamping values with only a 25-50% increase in pedal pressure depending on the application. The cover assembly is machined from billet aluminum with 25% more tensile strength than the competition’s cast unit. The flywheel is machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum to meet SFI spec 1.2 for competition in NHRA, NDRA, IDRC, IHRA, SCCA and NASA. Each aluminum flywheel includes a replaceable heat shield. Steel flywheels are also available on select applications.

725 SERIES – (7.25” Twin Disc)
The 725 series is a smaller diameter assembly, which creates less rotating mass and offering quicker, and smoother shifting with much better throttle response.

850 SERIES – (8.50” Twin Disc)
The 850 series is a larger diameter assembly, which is designed for high horsepower applications that require smooth engagement, quiet operation and high clamp load.

Available Stages:

“Full Street” (TD6) - 2 fibber tuff disc, one sprung and one rigid disc.
“Street and Race” (TD6.5) – 1 sprung ceramic disc, and 1 fiber tuff rigid disc
“Race” (TD7) – 1 ceramic sprung disc, and 1 ceramic rigid disc.

Clutch Masters offers custom option when required by utilizing a variety of friction surfaces, discs and pressure ratings to satisfy any need!

Clutch Masters Twin Disc features:

Components can be purchased separately for economical repair.
Positive release for ease of high RPM staging and shifting.
Most have experienced better 4/10's times and averaged hundreds of passes without complications or repair
All systems include:

Thanks for starting this thread as I'd love to hear the feedback from those who went with these solutions. I'm counting down until my OEM starts slipping under Stage 2 wear, and the few recent reviews of the other options gave me pause on jumping ship to DSG territory.

Would Stage I Clutch Masters kit (FX100) be enough for APR (or similar) Stage II?

Allset - which of those would you consider for K04.... the Stage III?

If you guys are looking for Clutch Masters clutch kits we can supply the MK6 owners with good pricing. We actually worked with Clutch Masters on designing the first clutch kit for the MK6 2.0T, we have had our FX400 clutch/flywheel kit in our K04 & bolt on equipped 2011 GTI for a bit over a year now.

Pics of a routine oil change

my point exactly. I have communicated with Clutch Masters about the lack of options for the mk6 and about their products being on the forum.
