MK6 GTI Unitronic Intake upgrade

Alright so I have quite the beginner question, I recently purchased the Stage2 Unitronic Intake for my 2012 MK6. Upon reading the company information it recommends a Stage 1 software upgrade. Do I need to upgrade my ECU in order to have the intake run correctly or can I install and drive?

It will run fine. You wont get all the gains that you would if the car was tuned but you will still get gains.
