Cool Is it time to move to stage 3?? Or could something be wrong??

Ok, so Idk if it is just me getting used to it, or if in fact the car is getting slower. What should a stage 2 be running in 1/4 mile. I have searched for the past hours and I cannot find any videos!!! LoL..

I am just wondering... I was discussing this with a few buddies, and my buddies 13.2 second RX-7 WALKS me like I'm standing still.. I mean I know Im not 13's but still. I feel like I'm terd slow! Is a stg 2 (APR STAGE 2 TUNE, Turboback exhaust, and Intake) that slow? lol... It is a lot of motivation to go stage 3!! Let me tell you.. Could i be getting heat soaked that quickly since it was about 80 outside, and I do not have an FMIC?? Any and All input is GREATLY appreciated guys...

Damn, I always thought I was 330hp... I was looking at APR's website again, and IDK what the hell I was looking at, but stage 2 is only 270's! .... hmmm ... Maybe K04 would be good enough... Idk... How reliable is stage 3, I'd rather just go all the way... this way Im not wasting the money on the K04... Just go stage 3, and then I can spend money on figuring out how the hell to get it to hook! That would keep me occupied for a while!!

Thanks

You should be mid 13's to mid 14's.
Have you dynoed?
Find your peak torque and use that as your shift point.

My K04 is putting down 313 whp.

MId 13's being only stage 2? I only have the Turboback Exhaust, and Intake, and the Stage 2 tune, STILL HAVE STOCK TURBO...

According to the qtr mile time sheet on vortex, that is what people are getting!
A 13.2 car may beat you but it should not leave you in the dust.
Can you data log?
Is your boost level proper?
Are you shifting at the correct point?

People are getting 12's with STAGE 3... thats 200 more horse then me... haha... I don't see how a stage 2 MK6 gti is 13's... I am seeing MOST in HIGH 14's... and ALL that are in the lower times have an intercooler! The intercooler must really help... I know it gets hot fast, but damn, I didn't think it would effect it that much! I guess I will get the FMIC, and see what that does.. the past few times I drove it, it has been 80's and humid!

I cannot data log, and I don't have a boost gauge! Im shifting at middle redline... so what is that like 6500?

Get the IC and shift where your rpm's drop to peak torque.
Use APR'S graph for peak torque.
I'm thinking your shifting way to high.
According to APR's graph, your torque is nose diving at 4500.
Try shifting at 5500 then 5000 and report back!
My guess is you will go faster shifting sooner.

Oh ya, don't slow cruise then decide to race. Your stock ic is probably soaked.
Before a race do a high speed/low boost run.
Get some air flow through there.

That makes complete sense!!! :thumb up: I was cruising around then raced.. just cruising for about 20-30 minutes! I was probable SUPER HEAT SOAKED!!

Also, by high speed, low boost run.. shift at 2-2.5k and hit like 60-70... then turn around do it again and then line up right away?? Or go faster then that? What do you suggest??

You wouldn't be getting heat soaked if you are in consistent motion before the race. There is the possibility that you have a boost leak, or you could have even been flashed over at the dealership. Make sure that your programming is still on the ECU. You shouldn't be getting walked with a tuned MK6 if everything is in order.

Our Stage 1 GTI keeps close to cars slightly faster than 13.2's, and our K04 GTI is consistently in the 12's. Your car should be faster.

Hmm.. I did find out he spun horrible when he ran at the track... and most of the time we're messing around its from rolls... so maybe its quicker then 13.2If he hooks... I mean it is a built 3rd Gen RX-7... so the numbers might not be accurate..But still car feels slower... I need to get a boost gauge, and see what Im boosting!!! I just have that deep down feeling something isnt right! As far as getting heat soaked... I have heard its very common and happens quickly without the FMIC when you're stage 2... It is a high possibility.. My car sat for about 2-3 hours. when I got back in it was still at 160 degrees (Middle Temp)

Yep, anything to get some air flow through there!

In my old car with a front mount IC, I used to play with Subys that still had the stock top mount. We would play around a little before really racing.
I made sure their IC was HOT!
Dirty trick, I know, but it worked!
Yes, yours is a front mount but it's sandwiched between the condenser and radiator.

I've also read where people have rigged up a secondary switch to turn on the fans to draw air through even when the A/C is not on.
That should help keep it cool too!
Others have rigged up a secondary water spray to spray at the I/C.

Your best bet though is to just get a better I/C and do your racing only after a cool down. Cruzing and playing before a race is just begging for a heat soaked IC, regardless of whose IC you are using. (Except a dedicated front mount)

Well, supposedly the APR FMIC, is supposed to be amazing and REALLY help. I am going to try it, and see how it works. I am also going to bring a fucking cooler of water to dump on the IC before I race! haha

Agreed,,,, as long as "consistent motion" meant more than 40 MPH and your where not "playing" IE: not boosting every 10 seconds.
Buy a P3 gauge! You can monitor boost and intake temps!
Love mine!
