Center of steering wheel ticks while being turned under resistance

Recently I noticed that when I make turns, the center of my steering wheel makes very quiet ticking/popping noises under any kind of resistance. I know this is extremely nit-picky, but I just want to make sure it's normal due to the fact I had work done on my car recently around the steering wheel area.

Minus hearing my hands on the leather steering wheel, you can hear very quiet ticking/popping sounds while the wheel is being turned. I do know there was a voluntary recall a few years ago for hair contamination in the clockspring. Not sure if this could possibly be it. I just want to make sure the noise is normal. Better safe than sorry.

Sounds like clock spring issue. Check your vin on VWs site to see if yours was included.

Nope. No open recalls on my VIN. Wondering if I should take it just in case it could turn into something worse.
