strangely, there are few cars I would rather own, despite all of this. this just makes me a masochist, or insane. people have used the stripper analogy and its true. i dont know how many of you on this forum have dated a stripper before, but i have. owning the GTI is like dating a stripper. terrific body, great sex, high maintenance nightmare otherwise. you stay around a while for the sex and the body and you bail when the issues become to much to deal with. guess the question is, how much longevity is there in that relationship?

I didn't read the entire article but you're right. I think it's not an absolute quality issue (that's where Toyota came first) but a perception/happiness issue.

When Chrysler scores high and a Fiat is number one in a category then we aren't talking quality but perception.
