Doh! I was just Looking up this part and I realized that I think this is exactly the same thing that we had on a 2011 JSW TDI that just got bought back. I didn't have the GTI yet, but I knew I should have taken it off. I was just too lazy to go out to an I heated garage in January and didn't figure I'd have another use for it.
