Part #000051419 unboxing vid (VW / Helix Spare tire soundbox)

Nice! I was curious if the soundbox was only for the mk7's - and the 'stock' mk7 spare tire sub sounded DECENT! Considering the mk6 comes with no sub, it has NO BASS! Would love to pick one of these up - i believe ECS had them heavily discounted a few months back, could still be active.

A little bit of wiring goes into any job but this, my friends, would be worth it.

I picked (another) one up from my dealer yesterday for $240, for the wife's Tiguan.
Plus VW has a mail in rebate going on for 12% back (you can fill out online)....so I'll get a check back for $28.

The cheapest online is $228+shipping which came out to over $250 IIRC:

Dealer cost on it is $210, btw

The "wiring" is super easy, behind the radio, with a $10 terminal tool. Just running the harness takes the longest time (removing the trim panels & what not)

I listened to this in the OP's MK6 and it was pretty impressive, IMO, for the money.

I had this installed today. I wasn't too happy with it initially - the bass was very muddy and not very transparent.

I had an idea to switch to the dynaudio coding for a flat EQ output... and voila. Fixed all my issues with it!

Very well put together system in this configuration. I went -3 treble on the RNS310 and didn't need to touch anything else. May mess around again with the settings after the drivers loosen up a bit but overall I'm extremely pleased.

Do we still need to code the subwoofer from the dealer?

Yeah, I took the jumper out of the amp this afternoon. It fixed the weird sound stage in the front speakers where everything seemed biased towards my driver side speakers. Everything sounds balanced now, just not sure if the rear speakers have swapped polarity from them fooling around with radio harness. Can't believe how misinformed my dealer is and how they treated me like some 3rd rate idiot.

im really wanting to jump onboard here. The different terms being thrown around are a little confusing for someone who's never done any audio modification.

Can we please get a quick rephrasing/rundown of what needs to be coded/changed/reprogrammed other than just the normal installation?

i know right, im confused as well. but the upgrade seems pretty cheap if we can DIY

The install is not all that hard to do, its the unpinning of the existing wiring harness that is a pain. The amp also needs to be programmed to the correct vehicle, this requires a specific dealer tool to perform (takes 30 seconds).

YES!
There are guys on golfmk7.com renting out the programmer for only $15 or $20
You use it & then mail it to the next guy

Install is super easy.
Pull the radio trim, pull the radio, unplug the harness from the radio, swap a couple pins (a $10 terminal tool is all you need) & plug a harness in, and then route the harness down the passenger side of the car to the hatch area.
Routing the harness is the "hardest" part (under the trim/carpet)

Plug the harness into the amp (on the sub box), program the sub box with the programmer (rent it--see above) and then secure the box in the spare tire area.

Done!

It takes this guy forever, but the "wiring" behind the radio would be similar for the MK6:

This should be what you need for the MK6 (harness adapter is included in the kit):

No problem!

BUT that guy charges way too much for the programmer!

See here for the cheapest rental, he only charges $15....(OR I can just PM you his email address to get a hold of him directly):
