this is really interesting. i wasn't aware that you already have a custom job done. do you have pictures or a write up of it or anything (like, more so than what you just wrote there)? i'd be interested in learning more about it. thanks man.
This s a hobby for me, with each version I made progress but they all worked to some extent, the second proof of concept version is the one I was running last week but because it is a hack job copy of the C2 SRI, it's barely able to support its own weight, I wouldn't want anyone to try to copy it, with the weight of the throttle body and filter attached, it breaks and leaks where it's glued.

The objective is to do it on the cheap, I will provide instructions on how to copy it if they want to, just be patient. I'm trying to get the next version ready to go south middle of January, and I'll be in Daytona for the Rolex 24 weekend, I want to drive down with it if I can get 'her done!

Would love to drive VIR on my way down : ) with a SRI if no snow.

Until then Merry Christmas

Thanks, ... so someone else is interest in this.... LoL.

The Original VW manifold flange has oval passages is equal to about 1 5/8 inch diameter opening to the vales but they choked off the high end performance by using small intake runners smaller in diameter than 1 3/8 inches and gave it a plenum size of over 6 litres which helps the low end torque below 2500 RPM, but above that they reply on the runner length tuning to get the midrange.

My newer version is reliable and is built from parts you can find at the Home Depot (each version has built for very little $) but using pieces from the bought (2) or donated manifold(1) to make life easier and don't have to make every part.

The goals have changed as I have limited resources, I'm building it more for my needs, which is to say for track use, so performance and drivability in the 4K to 6.5K is essential; and not to rev to the stratosphere like the IE version.

One key feature that I'm adapting into the design is the ability to change/vary the runner lengths very quickly. I made some measurements and assumptions; then used this calculator to determine that the runner lengths will be between 8.5 to 10 inches (the 2 inch head port to valve distance is taken into account).

If you want to build one, you can customize shorten the runner lengths to rev higher but you will require the EI SRI Tune to provide the extended fuel and ignition timing way past redline.

The Key component that help me form the Bell Mouths inside the Plenum are these 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 Flexible Couplings that you can buy for $7 each at Home Depot. I use them to form simple Bell Mouths, as well they connect the 4 to 6 inch x 1 1/2 drain tail pipes that form the intake runners. NOTE: The specs may say 1 1/2 but the actual dimensions are larger

I will post pic and instructions on how to make and shape the bell mouths and connect the runners once I get the instructions written up, .... .
