Issues with boost? (K04) GTI 2014

Hello,

This is my first "real" post on this forum. So i have a GTI with a K04 turbo kit, downpipe, intake and a tune from APR. So I may have some boost issues. Maybe I am overthinking this, but here we go...

First gear pulls great and so does second. Third gear is making me concerned. If I start around ~3k RPM WOT, around ~4k RPM my DV flutters a little as I am building boost. Boost hits 23 psi shortly after and then drops down to 18 psi (where second gear stays). It is almost as if the boost is being restricted for a certain point. Now I have a few reasons why I think this is happening. I really would appreciate someone with knowledge in this area as well!

1. DV valve is not acting right. Could be broken or some portion of the DV is not working properly. Could be a minor adjustment needed.

2. ECU is restricting boost in 3rd gear since it senses the boost as too "high" for the engine. Maybe the reason for lack of boost between RPMS?

3. Could this also be a faulty fuel pump? Maybe it is cutting in and out at certain points, but I cannot see it doing it in just third and sometimes fourth gear.

4. Is my APR software needing an update. I don't have a device to check logging or the version of my software (bought the car used)

Overall I need somewhere to point to when I call my tuner so they know what I need or might need fixed/adjusted.

Thanks for the help everyone....

can't really help diagnose what's going on without a good datalog to analyze.

I recommend taking a good log, uploading it to www.datazap.me

and post the link. or just post the CSV file here for viewing

Since I have APR software I will get the APR dongle and upload a log here, hopefully soon.

Hey man. I had a pretty similar issue recently. Turned out to be a broken N75. I'd definitely look there early on in your search for the cause since if this goes bad, it can cause all kinds of stupid boost issues. And its a cheap and easy fix.
