Nezoid - The "Budget" Build

The "budget" car build. I originally purchased the car after getting rid of my modded stock turbo SRT-4 (Feb 15) to get a family car. That lasted 7 months, and I felt I was missing something in my life and wanted something with a little pick-up and go, and a lot more class than an SRT-4.

So a year and half ago I picked up my 95,000 mile GTI (currently 105ish?). At the time, I wanted a car to be modified on the cheap to be nearly as fast as the car it replaced before it. I thought I would be satisfied with the GTI when/if it got to that point, and I would be within budget.. well it started to get out of hand. As you can see I wasn't satisfied with each stage of the the car as some mods only lasted days.

Below is a history of what was done to the car and when.

Car Purchase - 09/19/2015

Engine
Eurodyne Maestro (purchased) - 10/15/2015
Eurodyne Stage 1 - 10/17/2015
Eurodyne Stage 2 - 10/23/2015
eBay Downpipe - 10/26/2015
DIY Intake (removed) - 10/29/2015
eBay Catback - 03/14/2016
Forge Spacer (removed) - 03/23/2016
FrankenTurbo F23T - 05/21/2016
F23T Stock Tune (up to 9* timing pull) - 05/28/2016
Andy Samland F23T Tune (down to 3* timing pull) - 06/03/2016
CTS Intake - 10/22/2016
Devils Own Stage 2 W/M ( 0* timing pull) - 03/14/2017
Modded Andy tune (W/M) (Added boost/timing and 0* pull) - 05/05/2017

Transmission
034 Insert - 04/11/2016
Eurodyne DSG Tune (Stage 1) - 10/31/2016
Eurodyne DSG Tune (Stage 2) - 05/05/2017

Maintence
Redtop Coils - 10/18/2015
NGK PFR7S8EG Spark Plug - 10/18/2015
Soundpipe Removal - 10/18/2015
Fuel Filter - 10/18/2015
Fuel Lines - 10/26/2016
Soundpipe reinstalled- 03/25/2017
Sun roof leak fix (final? I hope) - 04/10/2017
OSRAM Night Breaker - 02/08/2016

Random
Euro Switch - 10/26/2015
Yellow Fog Overlays - 04/03/2016
Trigger Wire - 05/16/2016
FK Streetlines - 08/15/2016
NSP Boost Gauge - 10/29/2016
3DSM 0.05 w/tires - 03/02/2017

Where to go from here? I am pretty happy with the performance, I do want more..who doesn't? I do believe it is faster than the car it replaced though..(Hard to replicate a feeling/experience from 2 years ago) but I did have to spend more money to get there.

In all honesty haven't really had any pulls with other vehicles, so take the results with a grain of salt. I did get the chance to do a quick pull/race with my friend in a '16 Scatpack Charger. (Side note) I really love the sound and like the looks of that car. We did a 45-90 pull and.. the GTI just edged out by half/full car or so when said and done. We only did it once and it was prior to my w/m install, and I'm sure it could have gone either way if repeated.

The only other test was recently with my WIP w/m tune against a latest gen R/T Charger. Long story short, I let him open up first just to be sure he was trying. I seemed to gain on him quicker than I thought I was going to do. Could have been speed/gear/driver at his disadvantage? This was repeated a couple of time with similar results.

Near Term to do list:
  • Rear hatch cover. (Mine has a small crease)
  • Fix exhaust rattle (Can't seem to fix. One day rattle.. one day)
  • Tint
  • Random interior fixes

Wish list:
  • New coilovers, or might raise the current ones, due to the rough roads here in Cleveland.
  • Wheels. I purchased these at discount with like new tires, so I couldn't pass the deal up. But they are not my favorite.
  • Intercooler
  • Handling mods
  • LSD
  • Big Turbo

If anyone has an idea where to go next.. I'd be happy to entertain the thought.

Will be updating with pictures when I take them.

If anyone has any questions regarding any of the parts/software I do not mind going into detail. I plan to review some of the notable changes to the car.

No shame here. It puts a smile on my face. Obligatory dirty car picture.

There IS NO shame in another persons build we all build around what's important to us.

That being said, you should TOTALLY see if you can get these eBay brands to give you kickbacks by having the first OFFICIAL EBAY GTI

Decal it up!

I don't mind the laughs, all in good fun and if not meh. I bet nobody would guess this car/post came from someone who just finished 20 years in the Army. It's what I get for posting at 2am a bit tipsy.. Either way

In all honesty, only the exhaust and coil overs are non name brand. I just say ebay because I like to find deals and don't mind purchasing second hand.

I think I'll pass on the stickers
