How programmable are the controller for the AWD system on these cars if you have access to it? Moving something from a CC to a Golf may be physically doable, but the calibration parameter will be quite different as the platform it was programmed for will be different. Wheel base, track, weight distribution, suspension geometry...etc all plays into how the chassis controller commands the AWD system....granted I'd imagine the 4Motion system is not nearly as sophisticated as something off a Lancer Evo or something....

I don't see why everyone is discouraging him. It's his GTI, let the man do what he wants. Personally, I think it would be interesting to see a GTI done up like that. Would I do it? No... but I saw a passat at Waterfest with a vr-6 in the trunk ( and still the engine in the front) which made even less sense to me. I also think it's cool he wants to do something a little more unique than dropping a chip and an intake in his car (which is what I'll probably end up doing because I'm not the least bit mechanically inclined).

Because no one wants to see a nice new 26k car get torn up, torn apart, just to find out the whole thing was impossible in the first place and now you are forced to put the whole thing back together and loose all the money already spent.

The first step of any mod should be the study of its viability and ease of install. The points made here are valid.

I am not trying to discourage him at all; just want to be sure he is realistic about the cost and level of work involved.

Even doing all the work himself, this would still likely reach $10K-$15K in parts and materials before he is all done.

Spend the 10-15 grand and trade up to a golf r when it gets here, easy as that, waste of money doing a conversion like that

It be easier to move the engine to the hatch and make it a mid engined rwd rally hatch...

Or get a golf r32, and stick the mk6 body on it, and turbo the r32 or stick a 2.0 TSI in it...

Or just sell the GTI you have now, pick up an old BMW 2002 to play around with and drive until the R20 comes out and with the money saved use it to buy the R20

RAI was looking for 600+ hp out of their project 3.6 CC. It would sound way cooler than a LSX, it would be AWD like you wanted, and VW kids wouldn't hate on you so much.
This a hundred million times.

OP - I love the thought and the attitude but piecing something together is going to be OVER the 10k range and simply won't work right. It won't.

Or Audi's new 2.5T from the TT-RS. Amen.

I have nothing to add, save for the new-found knowledge that there is slang for huffing the fumes from excrement.

This is like synthetic cannabis meets two girls/one cup.

Bravo.

Since we can't get the scirocco here... Why don't you just rebody the GTI as a scirocco? That be way cool...
