BSH Engine/Transmission/Pendulum/Torque Mount

The DIY has been moved to the DIY section of the forum. Find it HERE

Fedex box arrived this morning...

Bought the engine/pendulum/torque arm from Redline Motorworks. Had a very nice experience with Andrew.
Transmission mount from wbean on this forum. Great guy, has a nice MKV.

No instructions manual included...I guess it wouldn't be too hard to figure out

A full review
*If u don't want to read about me going on and on about details skip to the conclusion at bottom*
So here it goes, my follow up review. It's been more than 2 months (or 3000km) now since I installed this mount package. I'd say these polyurethane mounts have settled pretty well. So I'm gonna try to be honest. I wouldn't sugar coat anything just because I bought them.

So the vibrations....
#Low RPM#
It's most noticeable around 2000 to 3000 rpm when cruising in town. Especially when shifting down or coming to a stop using engine brake. The vibration is much smoother than the beginning but it's there. When I drive I usually have my house key(plastic garage remote + two keys + USB drive) in one of the cup holders. before the mounts it was quiet and no clanking when engine braking, now I can hear them just a little bit at this rpm, but not always. There is little to no added vibrations when cruising at high speed or idling at red light.
#Mid RPM#
around4000rpm to 5000rpm ish
Not much vibe when accelerating but there is quiet a bit more than stock when engine braking.
Other than that there isn't much to say about this rpm range.
#High RPM#
well, I don't feel a thing. when rpm is this high I don't think it's a matter of vibration or not.
but again when engine braking, definitely more vibes than stock.
#Backing up#
Now this is interesting. I installed the pendulum last. Before pendulum there was a lot of added vibration when backing up (yes, even more than stock), but then after the pendulum it just disappeared. Reverse gear has almost no vibrations now (yes, none or very little vibration compared to stock)

and now the cabin sound...
I don't know how am I going to explain sound in sentences. It's better if I can record the sound but didn't work with my crappy camera. Inside the cabin u will hear a lot of mechanical sounds.
#Engine sound#
u know when u open the hood, our TSI engine sounds a bit like tractor engine, it has that "tiktoktiktoktiktok" sound (turns out that sound was from the direct injection) now u can hear that in the cabin if u listen closely when idling. this sound amplifies when ur car is rolling and ur gear is in neutral.
#Gearbox/Transmission sound#
Depress the clutch and u will hear less engine sound in the cabin.
Release the clutch and u will hear a "clink".
Shift gears and u will hear the gear engaging.
A lot more transmission sound (that humming sound u hear when engine braking)
You can hear the flywheel a lot more.
#Accelerating#
This include revving when double clutch or single clutch.
All I can say is now my engine says "Growlllllllll". Sounds cool IMO.

and the performance...
BSH mounts do what they are supposed to do.
#Wheel hop#
(more about this in POST77)
It's greatly reduced, in fact I could not recreate it when I tried couple of times last week. Most wheel hop will be gone by installing the pendulum. The other two mounts still reduce it but not as much as the pendulum.
#Engine response#
well I don't really see too much difference. I noticed increased response while staying within the beefy part of the rpm but not by much. Maybe there is improvement in other part too but it's hard to say without comparing them side by side. I'm gonna need to drive a stock GTI to see the real difference.
#Shifting#
Oh, this is my favorite part. Shifting is so smooth, it's never been easier than this. I thought the torque arm insert gave me much crisper shifting but these just makes it much smoother.

So to conclude...
A bit of a pros and cons. This is based on my feeling and expectations so it still depends on u to decide whether the cons are pros or vice versa. If u love vibrations then obviously that's a pro.
[+]Pros[+]
-Removes 90% of wheel hop
-Better shifting
-A bit better response form engine
-Growl
[-]Cons[-]
-Added vibration through out most rpm range
-certain rpm gives a lot of vibes
-Added noise from various components
-Not a must if u don't plan to go for more power than stage 1

Overall in sentences there is added vibrations and noise through out the range. more than stock for sure even after they settle.
The clinking/clanking/metal colliding/gear engaging sound can be annoying. It can be heard if u know what to listen to even when ur music volume is at a comfortable level.
On the other hand the two motor mounts will make shifting smoother, much easier. For me this is a big change because unless u are a race whore, there isn't that many opportunities to even accelerate hard enough for wheel hop(spin) to happen.

Again I do see some performance improvements. Better mount means better power delivery to the wheels and I feel secure now that I know my mounts won't fail on me in the long run.

Would I recommend these? Yes if u are going beyond Stage 1 tune. Only the pendulum is recommended if u just want less wheel hop.

/End of review

Do ask me if u have questions, I'll try my best to answer them. I hope this thread will help some people out there. This is my first review so I guess there are lots of stuff I could write better. If I have something to add I'll keep revising, but for the most part it is how it is...and
Thank you for reading!

I hope you do the DIY I am a mechanic by trade but I work on Airplanes lol. I have and will be doing several in-depth jobs on my car so far and have not had any major issues yet other than not knowing about the auto leveling sensor attached to the rear lower control arm snapped that off cost me nearly $100 to replace that damn thing. But we live and learn. I would also like a review on here as well if you don't mind.

are you planning on installing each one slowly or just throwing them all together at once?

Andrew, I saw in the vendor postings that you're all sold out of the mounts. When will you have them back in stock (approx)?

I will throw them on at once, but I will have separate DIY for each of them in the above reserved spaces

I was installing Eibach Sport line springs. We did not see it when we removed the bolt that holds the lower control arm up as we lowered it to remove the spring it snapped off and that was when I started paying attention to everything before I remove something.

I'm trying to decide between BSH and BFI. Let us know how they perform!
