Just ordered this insert off ebay, but he also sells them here: http://www.kliimotorwerkes.com/
Picked up my GTI a few weeks ago, and the first thing I did was Plasti-dip my emblems. I thought the rear emblem just looked a little too blah, and wanted to spice it up a bit... But let me say this, I imagine this install is much easier without plasti-dipped emblems. The little bit of rubbery tackiness and worry of scratching or peeling the black plasti, made the decal a little more of a pain to work with.
Install is pretty straight-forward if you've ever worked with vinyls before. If you have application tools, use em. I do have some, but for the sake of writing up a DIY, I like using everyday household items like my driver's license, garden hose, fingers, etc.
First impressions: I loved the packaging, this is what people love. Apple products, Beats headphones (even though they suck), etc. - it's all in the details. Came in a padded envelope, with a little thank you / instructions sheet.
Start by spraying down your emblem, if you wanna go the extra mile, rinse/clean it with a very light soap/water mix.
Let it air dry, dry it with a non-lint filled towel, or use a can of air if you have it.
Typically with vinyls you want to apply the middle and then work your way to the outsides to remove all air bubbles. For this though, I think it is way easier to jam a corner into place and work from there. They are cut pretty much to the exact dimensions, so you don't have a whole lot of room for error. Use something like an ID card to push out any bubbles and make sure that the decal is pressed firmly into the plastic.
I did the top center and the two sides first.
Saved the trickiest piece for last...
Use something thin like your ID to push the little middle strip in. Then just try your best to line each of the sides up, and smooth them out like you did the rest. You'll need something thin and pointy to get the corners to seat in.
Ten or so minutes later, depending on how much of a perfectionist you are, you'll be done.
I know, my car is due for a good wash, we just had some really dirty rain last night here in Denver.
And a shot of the front, just because.
