Koni Coils Vs. Koni Shocks - Looking for Insight

So this isn't the typical cup kit versus coilover question. Well sort of...

Here's my situation: I have a set of H&R Supersport springs that I ran with stock shocks for a while, but found that the ride was bumpier than I liked, and that it seemed to run out of shock travel over larger bumps and dips at higher speeds. I'm not sure if the shop that installed them trimmed down the bump stops so that may have been a contributing factor as well. Anyway, I thought the ride height was perfect, but decided the ride comfort wasn't what I wanted, so I switched back to my original setup of DG springs and stock shocks (which ride great).

Here's my question: I am wondering if I paired the H&R Supersports springs with a set of adjustable Koni shocks, would I be able to get a much more comfortable ride than when they were paired with the stock shocks?

Aside from the obvious advantage of height adjustability, would there be any additional benefit of just selling off the H&R Supersports and buying a set of Koni coils? If I went with the coils, I would most likely set them to a height very close to what the Supersports were at anyway, so I am really just wondering if the Koni coils would have a similar ride comfort as the Supersports paired with Koni shocks, if they're both at a similar ride height.

I saw that WRDUSA has a sale on Koni coilovers right now for about $1k, versus a set of Koni Yellow shocks would be about $600 and I could just re-install the Supersport springs with them.

Any insight or experience with similar setups is appreciated. Thanks!

If you have the funds to get Koni coils, get them. They are super high quality and have the best ride out of any coil.

I have Koni coils and it rides super smooth. I love it. It's more of a riding coil though. If you look for performance coils, it's not the one.

I'd go with coils. The additional 400 is worth it.

Have you ever had Koni shocks to compare the coils to? If I was going to use the same ride height as the H&R Supersports anyway, would the Koni coils be any better than just the Koni shocks in terms of comfort?

BTW - Thanks for the feedback on the Koni coils. I have heard nothing but good things about them. I am just wondering if I can get a similar effect with just the shocks paired to the H&R's.

There's always going to be less comfort when you don't have the springs that the shock is designed to work with. That's the good thing about Coils.

I have Koni Yellow shocks/struts paired with Eibach Sportline springs (same height as your SuperSports), and the ride is great. Coils aren't for everyone.

Cool. What setting do you have the Konis set to? I imagine you probably did the shocks at the same time as the springs? Curious if you had any impressions of them with the stock shocks, since that's my only frame of reference for the Supersports when I ran them together for a few weeks. How are the roads in your area? San Diego roads are pretty rough with lots of undulating bumps everywhere you go. On smooth roads I thought the Supersports were great.

Get the Koni coils, you'll thank yourself later. They ride great, and they aren't all that bad for tracking. A wee bit of body roll, but still far better than stock.

I am considering these coils for my car. Would these be suitable for a couple track days a year kind of guy?

Get DG springs - new bump stops are included.

Much better ride quality. You won't be disappointed.

Ya for sure. I wouldn't hesitate to track a car with Koni coils, though they aren't the ideal coil for tracking that's for sure. I autocrossed on my koni's once and they did fine. I would recommend a RSB if your serious about tracking though.

I was told the Koni coilovers aren't even made for the MK6...I emailed Koni and got a reply from them today that stated that these coils are for the MK5 and that they do not make a coilover for the MK6 yet. I asked if they would still be covered with the lifetime warrantee if installed on a MK6 and obviously the answer was no....anyone have any issues with failure of these coilovers on an MK6 yet? Any warrantee issues if so? Thanks

I am in your same situation. I have eibach sportlines (same height as yours) and I ran them with stock shocks and struts and the ride sucked. You dont need to spend that money on coilovers if you like the ride height the way it is. GET THESE, YOU WILL NOT REGRET. I just ordered them yesterday. Very good price and very good shocks/struts by koni. They will give you an oem like comfortable ride, but still maintain that aggressive handling aquired from the lowering springs

Have you used these? Not to be a jerk but if you just ordered them and haven't even installed them how can you so energetically reccomend them? They may be great though, I don't know.
