Distinctive ticking noise (Yes i know Di) came on out of no where while i was letting the car warm up. I believe the noise has gone away after the drive. Car has 70 miles on it and just got it. Prob normal but was wondering wut the little device im pointing to at the end of the video is. Ive prob read it somewhere but wont come to mind.

I know it too. It sounds like a spark plug that's arcing ( it's not). It's normal, no issues.

ya man its normal. I have the same noise.....mostly at warm up and on and off getting to operating temp. I wondered for the longest time what it was too but I figured out it was evap system bs. I understand your concern with this. I wish it didn't click so damn loud though. I really wanna cancel my Secondary Air Injection some day but I'm not even going there until I pass emmissions at least once.

Fuel pressure relief valve. It's mounted right where your camera is pointing. Rev the motor it will go away for 2-3 sec, then it will come back when the motor idles back down.

It's not a fuel pressure relief valve.

As its been said that's the N80 valve. The gas tank and lines are all air tight so has vapors don't constantly vent to the atmosphere. But if it stayed air tight the tank would collapse on it self from vacuum forming in the tank. So basically the car pumps in outside air into the gas tank and slightly pressurized it, the evap lines run from the tank to that valve in the video and into te intake manifold. That ticking is the valve opening and closing to slowly let the engine suck the air and gas vapor from the tank into the engine to get burnt up. That valve only opens at idle and it always clicks on and off, since it's a solinoid the click is loud.

Your car is working how it's suppossed to.

Im reviving this old post, as I have the same ticking noise intermittant at idle and during warmup and constant ticking at normal operating temperatures

Is this ticking considered normal that the OP has in his video or did the replacement of the N80 valve
eliminate the ticking?

My tick comes from the same area of the engine bay.

I always just thought it was a 4 cylinder thing. I recall my subie and both evos doing it...don't remember if my ms3 did it too or not.

i took my dad for a ride last year and and he was pretty excited by the power and handling but then he got out and told me to open up the hood and hes like "hey i hate to say this but i think youve been driving this thing too hard youve got some really bad ticking coming from your engine it sounds like its gonna throw a rod". I started laughing and trying to explain and he got really pissed off.

Hes like "You have to start taking care of your things Dan you're 30 years old! You cant just blow up cars like you did when you were a teenager!"

It was like the noise drove him insane it was hilarious
