I'm 57 and well beyond a mid-life crisis...lol! I don't see the GTI as a car for 18 year olds (because like others, I couldn't afford one when I was 18), but rather I see it as a car for VW enthusiasts. If you like to drive, like cars and like the GTI, you're age doesn't matter. Hell, I plan to keep this on for a few more years, so the next one I buy will have me at 60-ish years old - and I'm excited about it.

I actually find myself poking fun at other people my age who drive "adult cars", but most of those that do, probably don't enjoy cars or driving anyway.

Besides, I think I look cool in my GTI with my grey hair blowing in the breeze... And, as I cruise past people, they DO LOOK and they can't see my 57-year old pot belly and arthritic hip!!!!! what could be better??!!??

Hey man, having hair at 57 is the accomplishment. The car is a bonus!

Your car should represent your personality....well, that's what I've always thought at least. I've had 5 VW's (and still have 2 of those) since 1999 and each one has represented me well.

88 GLI 16v
2004 GLI 1.8t (still own)
1995 Cabrio (lowered, not just a chicks car)
2003 20th AE GTI
2012 GTI (current dd)

I've loved every single one of them. I'm 32 now and get looks from people of all ages. It's a hot hatch.....who doesn't love a hot hatch??

I'll never drive anything else. I could afford any car under $60K...but why would I want to? GTI is perfect.

Im 46 and just made a 2011 GTI AB 6M purchase...I like the GTI so much my Lexus GX470 just sits in the garage now...

I looked at many cars prior to the GTI and test drove a 2012 and really liked the fit and finish and the relatively low price for the car...I will pass it off in 3 years to my son when he gets ready to drive..

67 here and lovin' it. Nobody can say this is mid-life crisis since I'm way beyond that. Previous fun ride was an '07 Honda S2000 but this car is almost as much fun and considerably more comfortable. Also, the DSG with those paddle shifters is fantastic.

It is now proven that the GTI is an Old Fogey Ride!

I was 46 years old when I bought my first GTI, a 1999 MK4; I will be 59 next month (I can't believe I have been retired for the last 6 years) and last February I aquired a 4dr 2012 MK6 GTI 6 speed MT. Had several SUV's and cars between the GTI's and found the GTI to be the best all round vehicle. It does not portray you as a wantabee 18 year old like a Suby STi does; as the GTI is more of a touring car than a real performance hot rod.

Just turned 65 so 43 is young. I've been driving VWs since 1962 when I had a new bug.
GTI is a fine car for you, you'll love it. And who cares what others say or think? It's your car and money buy what makes you happy.

Nope...... just enjoying the read. Getting totally enthusiastic on my decision. Now if I could just decide, "to Autobahn or not to Autobahn, that is the question"

Thanks again everyone for all of your posts. Really appreciate the feedback.
