Mk6 vs The Blue Ridge Parkway

Anyone else driven this road?? It's stunning in every way imaginable. Drove 100 miles of it in NC yesterday and about to drive another 200 miles Monday. I cannot wait to get back there.

Pics soon...

Update: Seriously late post. Been helping moving my wife in so free time has been sparse. But the wait should have been worth it :)

I feel like I'm sitting at the foot of a monument.

Perfect car to have in the mountains. Grand Tourer: the mannars of a gentleman with the soul of a rock star.

Plenty of tunnels

6036 ft: the car didn't skip a beat. No appreciable loss of power, but spooled quicker thanks to some cool air.

I'm not going to do well to try and describe how big this is. So look at this picture for a while.

Sunset, on our way back

I live in NC and was on the Parkway this past weekend. The visibility was incredible and the new pavement from MM275 soutward to MM311 was smooth as glass.

I've done the entire thing on my motorcycle twice. It's freaking amazing! I really like the 100 miles from Blowing Rock to Asheville the best.

I wouldn't mind doing it in the GTI....

I have gone down this road in my TL. This road actually inspired me to get back into a German car. I was recently up there but in a Dodge Durango (company car) I was missing my GTI badly.

Just be careful speeding. Local cops have jurisdiction and would charge you in their local court, but if you have the misfortune of encountering a park ranger, he theoretically has the option with charging you in federal court.

VERY VERY weird. I had a dream I was driving the BR last night in my GTI and it was marvelous! I've been on it many times in 'normal' cars, but never in a performance car. Going up to Brevard area in 2 months for a mtn biking trip so I can't wait to get some good miles in!

I'd go so far as to say the BR is so beautiful, even if you're in a 1979 Ford Mustang II, it's such an incredible drive that everyone should do it once in their lives.

I have driven almost the entire Blue Ridge (which is a long long roadtrip). Great road, but the speed limit is somewhat dull. My car was a Caddillac DTS, a FWD V8. Not the best car for such roads, but the comfort was ultraplus. Would i buy the Caddie? Not in a million years. It was fun to drive (the V8 is great), but the car is outdated. A 4 speed transmission for example ;). Cadillac is not even close to the European standard (nofi). Less funny, the DTS overheated so we ended on the tow truck ha ha. Some pics of the beautiful scenery.

Mount Mitchell, highest peak Eastern Coast.

Thats one road in that area I still need to visit...did the Dragon/Cherohala area last month and those were pretty spectacular...

I accidentally drifted onto it and almost killed myself.... I was pulling on to it, and either didn't see the sign, or there was no sign that said no merge lane. .So I'm cruising up the on ramp, and hit the top at like 45 and had to slide into traffic. I pooo'd a bit.

Shoot, if you've done the Dragon, you should be pretty well set. Most people on here would kill to drive the Dragon (especially on a day with light traffic) if they know anything about it. Most parts of the Blue Ridge I've been on are incredible, but it's usually a much more scenic/peaceful drive vs. white knuckle of the Dragon. The Dragon is a technically bad ass road, where as the Blue Ridge is nice, smooth road, with sweeping turns and scenic vistas galore. Both are MUST DRIVE roads though.
