iPhone charging issue with MDI

I just bought '13 GTI. The MDI worked without any problem initially, but now when I plug my iPhone (old iPhone 4 with iOS 6), it switches in and out of charging mode although the music plays just fine. It's really annoying since the phone either vibrates or beeps whenever it starts charging which means a beep in every 3 seconds or so.

I was wondering if anyone have had similar issue and wanted to know what can cause this. It might just be that my phone has run its course, but just wanted to check.
