Tire Pressure?

D3rk01

Ready to race!
I don't have the sticker on my door that says what the tire pressure should be. What is the tire pressure that the stock 18in wheels should be at? Mine are filled up to 41 right now. Seems rather high to me... ?

Thanks.

RE:Tire pressure ?

Hi ! for every one actually guys air pressure depend on size .This is important, you need to select an "extra-load" tire with a service description of 84. A standard-load tire (service description of 80) does not have enough load carrying capacity. The smaller air chamber of the 17-inch low profile tire is why you need to increase the tire pressure so much, to equal the load capacity of the original tires which inflate to 33 psi front, 29 psi rear. If you put 30 psi in the 17-inch tires like the moron above recommended you will overload the tires to the tune of about 800 pounds at best causing them to wear at a phenomenal rate at worst causing a serious accident.

Thanks for sharing with me !

If you look on the side wall of the tire it will have the recomended tire pressure on it

I think this is wrong. The recommended tire pressure is on the door sill. The pressure written on the sidewall is the absolute maximum pressure which should not be exceeded.
I think you will be driving at risk if you use the sidewall pressure.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct, the pressure on the tire is the maximum, not the recommended [under normal circumstances]. You need to check either the manual or the inside of the door.

Unless UK tires differ from US tires, please NEVER EVER follow this advice.

You will likely never have to inflate to the max psi listed on a tire for your GTI. 2011 Tire Guide says 35 psi front and rear for 2010 GTI.

I say 35 PSI ... higher PSI may get slightly better MPGs ..
but it comes at cost of uneven tire wear ... so I think
I rather have more rubber contact on the ground at 35PSI

I usually run about 40 PSI from day to day. On a trip up to the mountains I had to go to 45 psi to keep the tires from rolling over onto the sidewalls, and at autocross I had to run 55 psi on the stock all seasons.
