$4,600 money shift

Some of you have asked for an update regarding the ruined engine in my 2013 Golf R. Well, painful or not here it is. A few weeks ago a family member shifted from 4th gear to first (missing the intended 3rd gear altogether). The engine codes showed 8,500 RPM's......enough damage that the engine was replaced. I had the VW dealer in Utah where i bought the do the work. (I live in Idaho which required me to haul the car to Salt Lake City)

RaceCo of Tooele, Utah has been tuning the car. I had RaceCo take the car from the dealer to break-in the motor. I now have 400 miles on the engine. APR 's newly released stage 3 is being installed as we speak. The stage 3 installation as well as some additional mods will take about 2 weeks. I'm a little disappointed that the intercooler is back ordered and will several weeks to arrive. Our weather is cold enough now that the intercooler is not needed but it's an inconvenience to drive 250 miles (one way) to finish the stage 3.

The next comment people make is "too much money has been spent on a Golf." Yes I have spent a great deal but the end result is a car that will chase super cars and you know what? I can afford the car and it can be used as an awesome daily driver. The car puts a smile on my face each time the pedal hits the metal. I have other cars that can only be driven in fair weather so the R is exciting to me.

I'll give an update after I finally get the car back. I almost forgot that I have new wheels with Blizzaks waiting to be installed as well.

Congrats... must feel nice to have the car back.

Took me several months to get my car back since some of the special tools needed for the engine where on back order, and the pistons where custom... but in the end it was all worth it

Anyhow... sux on the intercooler, should check all the vendors if they have any in stock. When my build was close to being completed I bought an APR intercooler from ACHTUNING when everyone else including APR had it on back order.

^good deal. Hopefully they oblige. My service advisor would send me pics of my R when it was in for the clutch that said "your caR says good morning". Even though it was kinda dorky, it made me feel better when I missed her ha ha! It'll be cool if you could get pics to journal the progress.

Pishwah. It'd be a far bigger loss of money to buy a $35k car and then NOT repair/replace a fubar'd motor.
