The TDI is still fun to drive; not quite a GTI and definitely not an .:R, but torquey and enjoyable to toss into corners still at least, and I still get ~41-42 mpg on my commute even though I push it... alot...
That 40 mpg really makes me want to give up my GTI. How many times per month do you fill up? I'm getting 25-26 mpg with winter blend gas so I'm filling weekly

I drive a hair over 3,000 miles per month, so even at 40+mpg I have to fill up at least weekly. So far, with my current life-of-car average of ~42 mpg, I generally fill up about 5-6 times a month.

For a more "average" commute I would likely only need to fill up once every 10 days to 2 weeks.

It does take quite awhile to hit 40mpg on your MFI though. Warm up takes atleast 5 miles and if you hit even a single light you can pretty much forget seeing it when just running errands lol. I do like the mpg, however I average about 34-35 a tank because my daily commute just isn't long enough. I have seen 44mpg on trips which is just awesome though.

I'd love to get one, but I'll stick with my Torque app and BT adapter for now.

I did.

haven't really tested that out yet.

My Malone II tune gave me launch control. So i'll have to test it out on safe, dry pavement.

VR6Growl, do you find your TDI to be a nice compliment to your GTI or same driving experience?

I was thinking of getting a TDI in either Golf or Touareg form.

And then putting the GTI on hiatus for a while or at least my next track day.

The TDI is really a perfect middle ground between the GTI and the regular Golf. It has the sport suspension, but a little taller and a little softer than the GTI; so it is more comfortable day to day on normal roads, but handling is a little less crisp than the GTI is. Power and acceleration is down a little from the GTI, but not a ton, and in "normal" driving around town it is just as easy to get up to speed or pass someone with all the low down torque.

I think if you plan to have 2 anyway; get the Golf TDI for your daily and then go all out nuts on the GTI for the track. And yes; I think the the two complement each other perfectly

Ppl with gti catbacks or other gti style exhaust. Is there even a difference in sound? It is just cosmetic ?

Seriously, no difference on mine. I don't even know why they bother with a muffler at the end of these...

Way too much exhaust constriction to get much sound out of it. I really wanna do a custom straight through midpipe back through a GTI valence...maybe next year. 18s and engagement ring payoff is this year :/
