Today I took a half day and drove to Drive Auto Works in North Jersey to get the K04 file installed. They are a super nice shop, super nice people, would recommend.
While I was getting the software update, the owner asked me if I had gotten the necessary hardware. I said yeah, and he asked to see the washers... I showed him and he said it was the wrong one. The reason why he asked was because he had a customer bring in a used K04 for an install, and the guy didn't have the washer. The shop also couldn't find the right part for it.
By this time, the tune is done, I paid, and now I'm getting nervous. If I can't get this washer, there is no K04 this weekend, and I'm stuck w/ K04 software.
Went to every hardware & auto store imaginable (even a local Golf station for kicks) and couldn't find it. Of course.
Decided to install boost gauge and dv relocate instead since those needed to be done anyway. Let me start off by saying these two things took WAY longer than I thought they would. The fact that I didn't have an electric hand tool to remove all the T30 screws and miscellaneous bolts made the job tedious. Also, adding to the fact that I was on jack stands made it very difficult.
Spent five hours doing both the DV relocate and boost gauge. I will admit, we were both taking our dear sweet time the first two hours with beers in hand... in hindsight, a bad idea!
I am also kind of bummed since the carbonio makes for a super tight fit on the custom dv relocate. I will either have to forego the custom dv kit or get a new intake... to actually make it fit, I ended up removing the carbonio shell and am running a warm air intake until I can get it sorted out.
When I started the car, the car was idling horribly. I got worried since the CEL started blinking! After some troubleshooting, we found the cause... the boost tap supplied by New South had a hole in the side of it. The kit did include a plug, but the instructions are absolutely HORRIBLE...
Headache after headache. I hope I can source the fat washer tomorrow from VW. If so, I hope the install goes smooth.
