DasAuto1295's Godspeed (eBay) downpipe review

Hey guys, so since I haven't seen a whole lot of support for less brand name downpipes like the Godspeed downpipe (more commonly known as an ebay downpipe), I figured I'd write a review on it! So first off, I decided on this pipe because a few people on this forum loved it and haven't had any real issues with it. I also didn't feel like it was necessary to spend a large amount of money on a metal pipe since it has no catalytic converters and no resonators. I can always have an exhaust shop make me a modular section with a cat in it so I can try to pass emissions, and if that doesn't work, I can put the stock one back on (as much of a PIA as that would be).

I grabbed the dp for a tempting $169 shipped on eBay! At that price, why the hell not! Here is the exact link I got it from: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180933928346#ht_2449wt_956
The listing says it is for a mkv TFSI, but NO WORRIES! If you are CCTA, it is a PERFECT fit. No issues whatsoever. If you are CBFA, contact the user "steemax" on this forum. He has the dp and converted it to be able to run on a CBFA car. He can tell you all about it.

When I got it a week after I ordered it (Sunday night from California to Friday afternoon at my doorstep via UPS in Illinois), I was very excited. I opened it up and inspected the pipe. I was so excited that I forgot to take pictures until halfway through the install which is why I have so few. On to the pictures, shall we?

Here is the very restrictive stock downpipe:

Here is the new pipe and the hangar fitment:

Overall quality of the pipe seemed very good. Just be sure to inspect the inside for potentially loose metal fragments. I blasted all sections out with an air compressor, and I pulled off two metal fragments on the inside where the O2 bung holes were drilled. I also peeled off a sticker on the inside near where it bolts to the turbo. O2 bungs were also plugged in shipping with large bolts, which I thought was nice. The welds seem very nice, but maybe they welded it just a bit too hot and it got a little bit sloppy in small areas, but now I'm just splitting hairs. The welds are excellent quality. Install went very smoothly. As I said, everything fit perfectly so there's not a whole lot to talk about. Hangar fitment is very good, maybe not Plac certified, but good enough for most people. (No that is not an offending remark, I think Plac contributed a lot to our community by testing out so many products). Back on topic, the one preventative measure I took was replacing the clamp provided with one of higher quality. I used a Clampco clamp I had as a left-over from my Eurojet catback install. If you are CCTA, you have NO worries about buying this pipe. It has excellent quality and fitment, ESPECIALLY at this price.

Now on to the sound and performance. One word: incredible. The sound is intoxicating. I find myself taking more entertaining routes everywhere so that I can hear her roar! The second I stomp on the gas, the car rushes to life. Throttle response is MUCH more instant in all gears. And I'm not even stage 2 yet!! The sound is very gurgly and has a delicious amount of growl and rasp to it. I can't get enough of it! Every time I shift, it makes me giggle because it goes quiet for a split-second when I shift and then it roars back to life again. I actually think inside of the car it got quieter than when I had just my catback and the stock downpipe. My rather uneducated guess is because the ridiculously restrictive stock downpipe creates a lot of back-up of gasses making it louder inside with more drone. Now it just goes right through. None of that catalytic converter bullshit. Driving around town and parking lots, it loves to make quiet little burbles at low speed, which I absolutely love. At idle, it sounds EXACTLY the same. Barely sounds louder at all. I never feel like it will be loud enough to get pulled over purely because of my exhaust. No way it could ever be loud enough to get a police officer to pull me over. The ONLY thing I don't like is that its pretty raspy and lawn-mower-ish on cold starts. But hey, I have no cats, so that should be expected. Fumes are very noticeable if you let it idle in the garage for about a minute too. Other than that, not really noticeable or a big deal. Now if you've read this far, you've probably been drooling for a video. Well good news, there is one! Enjoy!

OVERALL: I love this downpipe and I am extremely satisfied with my decision to buy it!

Thanks for reading my review and hopefully it helped some people out! If you have any questions feel free to PM me or post it here!

CBFA just requires an extra 02 bung to be welded on. I've had this downpipe in my garage in a box for about 2 months now waiting on the turbo upgrade to arrive but I have a quick question, did you have to modify the flange holes at all? Because I skipped trying to install it on the stock turbo as I read that you would have to modify one of the holes to get it to fit, so it would be a waste to only modify it for a couple of months of use before I swapped out the turbo(it mounts without modding on a K04/F23T setup)

Oh i thought other things were required. Whoops! Well to answer your question, no I did not have to do any modifying to make it fit. Everything went together perfectly.
Maybe thats a different story for a GLI somehow? :iono:

Can you smell gas in the cabin or outside of the car after installing this? I was under the impression a catless downpipe would have this issue.

I can smell it outside of the car but its not very strong. The only time it gets strong is when it idles in the garage for about a minute, but I have yet to do that with the windows closed.

base on the picture - the DP exhaust hanger might fit better if you flip the plastic OEM exhaust piece upside-down

(yes I know the way you have it mounted now is the way it comes from the factory)

I have this same pipe and no issues!!! I have had it for 5,000 miles and no problems and I have it up to a magnaflow exhaust.

Just tried it with the windows up. I smelled nothing.

Maybe, but it's not really an issue for me. Either way it fits.

I've had my raceland (same pipe) for 10k miles and its perfect as well. :) and I bought it used for dirt cheap and that guy had it on for 10k. So 20k miles on mine with not a single problem.

Btw that Eurojet CB sounds great!

Yeah I haven't seen much info about the Raceland pipes either but I'm sure there is little to no difference. Seems like these cheap downpipes don't let anyone down!
And yes, I love my Eurojet cbe! Thanks!

Lol! Yeah, if I lived in California I wouldn't have this downpipe most likely.
