Project ImpostR build thread (AWD GTI Stage 3+ project)

Figured Id post this here since traffic on Vortex is dead unless you're stanced with $5k wheels.

Well I've never really done one of these before but figure ill start roughly about the beginning. Im gonna skip over some of the basic stuff as its boring and been done 1000 times over. Just gonna overload with a bunch of pics as thats all anyone really looks anyway.

Stock back in 2010 with about 20 miles on it, put about 550 on it before modifying

Basic upgrades, H&R springs, miro wheels, bolt ons etc.

Then came time for more serious power. Went through multiple phases of stage 1, 2 and then as APR kits evolved, car went from a stage 3, then stage 3+. Then through multiple sets of wheels, small parts, and slowly turning into more of project.

OZ Mitos - loved these wheels and would love another set but these were only 17's and wasnt on air. Had to be too low to look good so it didnt really last that long for me, could really deal with trashing my still virtually new car.

No real hardware changes for awhile. Did Oem LED tails, went through a handful of wheels, then an R bumper.

Iforged - def liked these the best but being 19's were just harsh, maybe Im getting to old for such a crappy ride lol.

Another set of OZ's, I was so happy when I scored a great deal on these but for some reason they never looked right in person to me but looked great in pics, I dunno

Always thought R wheels looked go but they are so heavy it kinda kills it

Scored a good deal on a slightly damaged R bumper so figured why not and decided to get it shaved.

I ended up at a point that I sold all my wheels and had nothing for shortly before H20. Picked up some Enkei reps, nothing special but were pretty light.

So now that I just skipped through a couple years in two posts that brings us pretty much to current time and the biggest part of the project and will get more reasonably updated.

450whp is fun, however going to the track and not really being able to get much faster I came to the conclusion that 450whp with all wheel drive would be that much better.

I started collecting parts with the idea of seeing how cheap I could pull off the swap. Well that kinda started to get out of hand and figured YOLO and started going overboard.

MK5 R32 trunk pan to be grafted into the mk6

Brand new A3 quattro/4motion rear assembly to go in

Fitting up some aggressive fitment VWR wheels 18x9, look good from the side but from straight on can see there may be some issue up front as I will be running a meaty tire. The fix for this in the next post.

Tearing into a perfectly good mk6 like this, most will think im crazy. I just think its what a true car guy/enthusiast does, always doing something to make their car accelerate faster, stop quicker, handle better, or look cooler.

Here is some of the tear down, this also brings it pretty much to current time frame.

Here are some more upgrades not specifically swap related. But as said earlier I have a fix for the wide wheels with some wild Toyo R888 255/35 tires, SRS-Tec front fenders. I gotta say Im truly impressed with the fit of the fenders. Im not body guy and even just throwing some hardware in to hold them in place they look like they will line up great. Definitely spending more then planned but found some deals I just couldnt pass up.

I applaud your ambition...and wallet. I've only seen 1 or 2 GTI AWD swaps, definitely awesome. The R bumper really sets it off. 17's do work, I ran 16's for a bit and love the chunky tires. I would assume your track goals mean bigger brakes eventually. Keep up the good work!

TD. I rock 18x9 too, but i'm on 265/35r18s , mind you they are only PSS.

The 18x9 et35 is such a beautiful wheel.
