BMS VW GTI JB4 info thread

I think I'm going to pick up a JB4 this week. Guess I will roll with MAP 6 until I can get a new clutch at some point. Or should I just get a JB1 and upgrade later? I just know that I won't be able to keep my grubby jimmy dean sausage fingers off of map 2... I've been thinking about this way too long lol. Still only at around 4k miles lol

I read that Map 3 is more clutch friendly than Map 2. The boost comes on later than Map 2.

Here are a few runs. I live in the middle of Chicago and I can't really WOT here but I managed to go out of the city for the day.

Thank you!! Also, today I have noticed hesitation/slipping when during runs at WOT at around 3-4k. It only happened in 3rd gear the few times. It feels like the car hesitates despite flooring it, maybe for a out a split of a second then continues delivering power. It is very weird. I don't think I have captured this on these runs tho, do you have any idea what this could be?

FYI, running only an APR intake, otherwise stock. Map 2 on 93 octane. Today was 70F and dry.

This map is too much for both your clutch and your IC/fuel. You're getting some significant timing pull when the IAT's get over 100. I'd use a custom Map 6 with boost reduced through the torque peak and a harder hit up top, but peak values will have to be lower until it cools off or you install an IC.

The clutch is a sad thing in these cars. Like it's fine if you know you need to replace it but it's still ridiculous on vw's part.

thank you so much for this.Very interesting to see that I have significant timing pull. I am running on costco 93 so i dont think thats the issue right? Anwyay, Im running on map 1 right now without any issues, would you still recommend going to map 6?Does this problem happen to all? why dont i hear more people needing IC to run map2?

I recommend you look for better fuel and budget for an intercooler. Even though boost season has started in New England, I'm still getting timing pull on my Map 6 (+8 peak) on the OEM IC. IAT's in the high 50's.

Does anyone know what Map4 is? I read that it was for DSG specific vehicles..is that true? But than I read it’s a stock map but with logging capabilities
Map 4 is a 6psi add map like map 3 but that tapers down in higher rpm, good alternative for higher altitude or bad conditions.
