Long crank rough start and flashing CEL

So as I was starting up the car this morning, the car idled pretty rough and the CEL started flashing for like 10 seconds and then everything went back to normal. It was a bit cold but not crazy or anything (about 30 degrees) so I'm not sure what's going on. I have noticed that the car has been...

    Test drove the BMW M235i

Like I said in my original post: - $55k base price limit (new) - AWD (preferably) or RWD - At least 300hp - German This will be my DD and only car so some practicality is important even though I'm not married/don't have kids. 4 doors and decent backseat room is a big plus for roadtrips...

    Test drove the BMW M235i

My thoughts exactly. I'm actually surprised it weighs that much considering it's tiny size. It actually weighs a little more than a current Mustang V6!! It's basically a muscle car in disguise. After I found out about the weight, my impressions from the test drive all started to make sense.

    Test drove the BMW M235i

Looks like the 228i is actually about 250 pounds lighter than the M235i as per the BMW USA site. 3535 pounds vs. 3300 pounds with an automatic transmission so that would take away some of that 80hp advantage as well.

    Test drove the BMW M235i

You're definitely right that it feels a lot slower than it is. I kept looking down at the speedo only to realize I was way over the speed limit even at what I perceived to be lower speeds. It's just so smooth that the sensation of speed is very dulled, which is suprising given how small the car...

    Test drove the BMW M235i

Having driven the M235i, I think I agree with this. The M235i just doesn't feel that crazy fast and probably wouldn't be far off from the 228 at legal speeds. The lighter engine could also make the car feel more nimble, much like you hear of reviews of 328 vs. 335. 0-60 in 5 seconds flat is not...

    Test drove the BMW M235i

Hmm definitely sounds like it's worth a try. How was the 2.0t in the car? Would you say it felt noticeably quicker than say a Stage 1 GTI?

    Test drove the BMW M235i

I'm definitely going to be looking at the new S3. Although I'm slightly turned off by the whole Golf based architecture, transversely mounted engine, another 2 liter turbo, and FWD biased AWD system. I feel that although the S4 is heavier, it at least has a much bigger longitudinally mounted...

    Test drove the BMW M235i

I guess it also depends how you use your car/where you live. Unfortunately, living in a big city like Toronto doesn't really allow you to open up a car on a regular basis and take it through the paces to really appreciate a car at 8/10ths and above. For me it's the occasional on/off ramp/random...

    Test drove the BMW M235i

With my GTI now just passing the 4 year mark, I've started to think more seriously about my next car and after owning my GTI I've come up with my criteria as follows. Now I love my GTI especially the way I have it set up but I just feel it's time to move on. - RWD or AWD - At least 300hp -...

    GTA APR DSG Tune locations?

Does anyone know where I can get the new APR DSG tune in the GTA? I've tried Georgetown VW for a few weeks now and they keep telling me they haven't received the tool for it yet. I'm kind of sick of waiting and was wondering if anyone here was able to get it somewhere else in the GTA. I've...

Bubble in tire.. replace one or all?

As the title says, the other day I hit a pothole particularly hard and got a big bubble in my front passenger side tire (Michelin PSS). The tires are relatively new as I got them last year and only have about 8,000 miles on them and at about 7-8/10 tread depth. Do I need to replace just one tire...

DSG MUCH smoother after basic reset

With my warranty expiring soon, I took the car in to fix a few things that were nagging me. The DSG jerkiness/roughness in D was one such item that was starting to drive me crazy especially in the cold :mad0259: You've heard it all before: - Jerky downshifting when coming to a stop making it...

    Strange exhaust noise at WOT

So I just got my Magnaflow CBE re-installed after not having it on for a year due to my stupid insurance company. Anyway, so today I did a few pulls on the highway in 3rd and 4th and heard this weird metallic noise (hard to describe) between 4.5-6k RPM under full load. This only happens when I'm...

Stage 1 Power to Weight Ratio

I was recently thinking about the weight of the GTI and how much power we get when we go Stage 1.. APR claims Stage 1 for the GTI is 255 chp or 230 whp. Our cars weigh in at around 3100 pounds. I was recently looking at the BMW 335i and the Audi S4 as contenders for my next car. People on here...

    Quoted 1140$ for Michelin PSS

So I was quoted $1140 CAD for Michelin PSS including taxes, all fees, mounting, balancing, etc. I just put down a deposit and they are ordering them. This is at Tires23. On top of that I'm supposed to receive a 70$ rebate from Michelin. Is this a good price? From what I hear, this is supposedly...

Thinking of selling for 2011 Mustang GT..

So, I've only had my GTI for about 6 months. I got it slightly used with about 9k miles (14k kms). It's a 2010. It now has 17k miles (27k kms) I have the fully loaded version with DSG and minor mods in my sig... Got a great deal so I won't be losing much in terms of dep. Kinda feel like a dunce...

Window going down slowly and scratching tint

So today I'm rolling down my passenger window and it goes down ok. But when I go to roll it back up it goes up much slower than usual like it's pushing against something. When I took a closer look I saw that it was scratching part of the tint near the mirror at the top. Luckily when the window...

Thinking of switching out of winters tomorrow

I have to go to the dealership tomorrow to get that wind noise fixed and I was thinking since it will be March 3rd and this is an extremely mild winter that I should go back to my Detroits with the Pzero neros all seasons at the same time. I'm currently running 16" Hankook iPikes and I HATE the...

    totalled car mods and insurance

So last weekend I got rear-ended by an SUV and it looks like it'll be a write-off. I know that I won't be held at fault because I was stopped and I have an independent witness to back me up. Plus the car tells the story. Anyway, I have that Carbonio intake in the car. Is there any chance that...
